France SMASH: The Complete First Season

Smash season 1 is being released on Bluray in France on September 4th 2012.

So far there has been no confirmation of a Bluray in the US or the UK, so I was wondering if I should get this?

Will there be English or will it be automatically set to French?
Will there be a review for this?

I thought no way this show would be any good but I gave it a try. Turned out to be one of my favorite new shows of the year. I'm delighted it's been renewed even if it won't be back until next year.

It's hard to believe it would not be released on BD in the US. Even the DVD doesn't have a release date and the BD is coming out in France next week. Really pricey though. I'll wait for now and see what develops.

The Amazon listing says it has English and French sound and English and French subtitles. It's Universal so it's probably region free. Also, it probably does not have forced French subtitles.

Hi,
I received my copy this morning. It is region free(yay!) all the titles on the show are in french but there is a English DTS-HD audio track which rocks!! All liner notes and the internal book is in French also.

Time to settle down now for some McPhee goodness!!!

Good to hear. I was afraid the sound would not be lossless. Is it DTS-HD HR or MA? Is the mix 2.0 or 5.1? I suspect and hope it's the latter for both questions.

I did go ahead and order it even though it is a little pricey. I won't get it for at least a few weeks though because I ordered it along with the Titanic box set which doesn't come out until the 14th. And it has to get here to the US.

The soundtrack is DTS-HD MA and is much punchier than the original DD mix on the broadcast. It appears that when the songs are unclear french subtitling comes up with the words... a little strange but i can put up with that

Yes its 5.1 and has a great ambience to it!

Yes, the main songs have forced french subtitles.... a great way to learn french i guess!

The box art is as all in french, and it comes will a slipcover which is always nice. The cover is as per the main art for the upcoming UK DVD. HTH

That's too bad. I canceled. I can wait and see if it comes out on BD somewhere else. If it doesn't and the price goes down at Amazon France I may eventually get it.

Thanks, taffyposh, for the info.

The French do the darnedest things.

Is there a little bouncing ball to help us sing along?

I won't get it on DVD. It needs BD. If it turns out to be the only option I'll get the French BD.

Other options may turn out to be another European country or Australia. Just have to wait and see.

Default Smash

I honestly dont think we will see anything on BD this side of xmas in Europe. My guess is the US release will coincide with the release of season 2 on TV in the US which is currently slated for february. I honestly cannot see the US package being any different from what is here in the french version(accept the forced subs during the musical numbers).

Might be worth someone contacting Universal UK to see if they have any plans to release it on Blu. My guess will be that the answer will be no. Due to the poor ratings the show received because it was initially only on a SKY channel and not cross platform. I know this has now been remedied by the showing being re-shown on Living.

And before i forget the DVD will suffer the usual PAL speedup which make Derek sound like Pinky and Eileen sound like Perky!!!

Just my $.02
