There were three (the G1 movie, the 2017 film and A New Generation), and none of them were made or distributed by Paramount

Yes while it was announced for a theatrical release by Paramount, A New Generation was later acquired by Netflix for release on their service. There is no mention of Paramount in the film itself, it's promotional materials, or officially released conceptual/development materials

No, it looks likely to be a theatrical release... at least if they think there's money to be made from a theatrical run.

Live-Action ‘My Little Pony’ Movie in the Works From Amazon MGM and Hasbro

“My Little Pony” is getting ready to gallop on to the big screen in a live action feature from Amazon MGM Studios and Hasbro Entertainment, Variety has confirmed.

Based on the popular toys that date back to 1982, the ponies have cantered into numerous animated series and feature films since the 1980s. The most recent feature-length outing was “My Little Pony: A New Generation” in 2021, which became popular on Netflix after its theatrical release from Paramount was canceled due to Covid.

This will be the first live action project for the 43-year old property, which has captivated several generations with its rainbow-hued animals with colorful neon manes and tails. The project is still in development with no creative team in place yet.

While the toys originally appealed mostly to girls, the 2010 series “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” lured a new type of fans: teenaged and adult men who dubbed themselves “bronies” and used their fandom to challenge conventional gender stereotypes.

My Little Pony toys have been sold in more than a thousand varieties, according to Hasbro. My Little Pony was recently inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.

Hasbro’s strategy to produce film and TV series based on its familiar brands include reimagining “Clue” on film and television with Sony’s TriStar and Sony Pictures Television, the live-action Dungeons & Dragons series “Forgotten Realms,” in development at Netflix, the animated “Magic: The Gathering Series” in production at Netflix, the live-action film and television “Magic: The Gathering” universe with Legendary Entertaimnent and game shows based on Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble which premiered on the CW.

I love this news. I don’t care if I’m in the minority. The ponies themselves are obviously going to get the Sonic/Pikachu treatment...turned “real” but still look cute and fuzzy.

The MLP world in live action will look beautiful. Although it might not be the primary setting at least we’ll get to see it unless it’s similar to Pokémon where it’s a shared world with humans.

Anyway I loved Friendship is Magic. Seriously one of the best modern cartoons. I saw New Generation on Netflix and few of the series episodes. It’s also quite good. Not sure how it connects to FIM because I haven’t kept up but I’m glad it’s in continuity.

I expect this is either going to be 'unreal characters going into the real world' as in BARBIE and SMURFS, or 'real people going into the unreal world' as in MINECRAFT and COOL WORLD.

I just wish we got more animated movies based on G4 with the same animation designs/style as the first G4 movie.

I think it has more to do with Barbie. Barbie seemed to convinced Hollywood that you can make a movie that appeals to both the female demographic and male meme culture group. Which My Little Pony is already doing that. Only thing is, My Little Pony is no Barbie. Still, My Little Pony still has a loud enough fan base. Hell, even I had a My Little Pony doll as a small child. Don't know why though, but it was way before the brony era, so don't judge me, lol!

On the very small chance we actually get a good movie I will be entertained....otherwise I am sure I will still get some fun nightmare fuel to make fun of.

I am really curious at what the pony design(s) will be....I hope it is more like current Sonic movies and not nightmare Sonic first movie design.
