Interesting.

Have the Criterion but said I'd buy a UK 4K if released. First FilmFour 4K?

Fantastic news, but only if this new transfer eliminates the excessive telecine wobble/judder of the current U.K. Blu-ray.

This is Film 4's first 4K, so hopefully they handle it well.

If you'd held Criterion's flimsy, oversized, glow-in-thurr-darrk cardboard case in your hands, with its scratchy cardboard sleeves to cradle your made-in-mexico discs, you would be down on your knees, praising the packaging gods for Film4's dubious choice of artwork

Yeah, their Blu-ray release was awful. I’m hoping they have the foresight to correct the wobble.

If they do, this is a no brainer.

It's using the same 4K scan/restoration as Criterion, so that won't be an issue. The main issue is how well it'll be encoded by Film4. It would be great if Fidelity in Motion were handling that.

Good news, like you say the safety net that is FIM would be perfect, but let’s hope it’s well handled regardless.

Ironically, this Steelbook's colors/design make it look more Glow-in-the-Dark-ish than the Criterion release

Wasn't a fan of this one, but if this means we'll be getting a 4K of Shallow Grave at a later date, then that would be great news!

That would be good, but still a great year with this and hopefully Second Sight come through with the Dead Man’s Shoes UHD.

Currently 10% off at Rarewaves with the code RWJUL10 until Thursday!

Can’t wait for this one and yes, hopefully Film4 give this to the right authoring house as this is one of Criterion’s weakest 4K encodes. In my opinion, not far off the bottom-of-the-barrel Walkabout UHD.

We’ve already managed to convince Icon to use a top authoring house (VDMS I believe) for The Dreamers and hopefully Malcolm X as well, so maybe everyone who’d like to receive Trainspotting with a good encode reaches out to Film4 and lets them know. I remember reading X/Twitter and YouTube comments advocating for FiM on Icon’s The Dreamers and they were all much liked, so I’d say chances are there!
