Umbrella have announced plans to release Eyes Without A Face (Les Yeux Sans Visage) (1960) on 4K on ~~November 6th~~ December 18th.

That yellow artwork on the box is original?

I just googled "Eyes Without a Face original poster" and only see the image used for the slipcase (which is amazing by the way). Can't find anything that looks like that slip box...which I do not really like at all.

It appears to be based off this original Italian poster:

I don't think so. The French 4K release is the only other I'm aware of. It does seem like a title that Criterion will eventually upgrade though.

How was Criterion’s BD release? Master from 4K scan? Encoded well? I am really tempted to pick this one up.

Edit - I looked. Older HD master used for Criterion and they rarely upgrade those. So it’d likely be a UHD with a BD from an older master.

Does this Umbrella come with a BD from the 4K master, and is it region free?

Nice to see an English friendly disc. Hopefully Criterion or the BFI do equivalent versions at some point; would love to see better encoded versions (hopefully with the Junji Ito art as well, but most likely not)

Yep, as well as Grindhouse which is where I ordered my copy. Grindhouse has the release date as "Street Date 12/?/24" in their description.
Interesting that Atomic Movie Store has this in their description of the standard release they are carrying: "This November release has run into issues and replacements are now being manufactured. The new pressing and replacements will be made available in December 2024"
I have heard Umbrella can be pretty hit or miss when it comes to PQ and especially encoding on their releases, hopefully this will be a hit. The packaging and extras look nice, for sure.

I have only just found out about this today; not here but from a thumbnail on DVD Beaver. I managed to order from Umbrella Entertainment in Australia direct, having tried some of my usual outlets. Anyone know how Umbrella Entertainment packages their international orders for shipping? I have never, ever had a problem with a DVD or Blu-ray order from any Australian supplier, including small eBay sellers. This is only my second 4K UHD order from 'Down Under' (I'm not 4K ready but this is an old favourite of mine, indeed my personal favourite French film). Via Vision [Imprint label] are amongst the very best for packaging, on a par with excellent US company Diabolik DVD.

I no longer have the Criterion, so I don't know how it compares. But I am happy with it. Not a perfect image, but considering when it was made, looks solid. Would like to see comparisons between it and the Criterion release. The sound impressed me more. Very clear. Did not sound hollow like some older movies and no hiss.

My Caligula set arrived undamaged, though I know others weren't so lucky. They did issue an apologetic statement where they said they'd changed warehouse and that standards for packaging had evidently slipped, but whether that's actually resulted in any change, I dunno. I would hope so!
