Default Hollywood Video pulls HD DVD

The Hollywood videos around where I live carried 50/50 blu-ray and HD DVD. About 100 titles of each. I went in today after work and every HD DVD had been replaced by blu-ray and the store manager said they would be bargin binning them next week

I'm still not paying 8 dollars to rent a BD movie so until they include HD movies under their MVP plan they can stock it with all HD-DVD and I couldn't care less.

Yeah, I said it.

Best Buy should pull all of the HD DVD movies ASAP. Talk about a waste of space.

It seems all video stores are in some sort of financial trouble these days.

I think more and more people are buying movies instead of renting them. With the high cost of renting, buying almost seems like a bargain.

i think every store should just put there HD-DVD movies for 5 dollars each and 50 dollars a hd-dvd player right now.

$8?!!

My little (but jammed stuffed with titles) local independent charges $3.75 for a 7-day rental on HD titles.

Last time I went to my local Hollywood Video store looking for a certain dvd which was about two months ago I think...........Anyways I didn't recall seeing any Hi Def formats there either. Perhaps that place is usually dead anyways and they don't carry flat rate monthly deals like Blockbuster.

I've always been expecting them to go bankrupt because they've been Dead Silence for quite awhile.

I used to work for the Movie Gallery chain of rental stores. Movie Gallery, Inc bought the Hollywood chain about 2 or 3 years ago. Since that time, A LOT of Movie Gallery stores have closed. In the past few months, I've heard quiet rumors of Movie Gallery bankruptcy...for whatever that's worth.

It is very possible that Movie Gallery Inc spread themselves too thin because they already operate the Game Crazy (or whatever they're called) stores, Movie Gallery's, Hollywood, and some tanning/tanning supply stores. I, like you, like Hollywood and enjoy their SD DVD sales, although I'm buying fewer and fewer of them.

In my area, only the larger ones carry blu-ray. They use to all be the same size and carry the same stuff but then they ran some sort of market test where they reduced the size of some of them to see how they would fare. I guess the test must have worked out okay since we now have full-size ones and half-size ones. Half-size ones don't carry hi-def and the full size ones do. Unfortunately for me, the one that is like 5 minutes from where I live is one of the half-sized blockbusters.

Yeah, 8 dollars. HD-DVD is only 5 and change. The HD media was included when i first started the MVP plan about a year ago, but within the last month they changed it. It says on their website that it isn't included but thats a recent amendment to their policy when when I joined up.

Yeah -- I heard this. They will selling the HD DVDs for $10 each.

I guess I will be stocking up on a few titles that I am still wanting to get (Eastern Promises and American Gangster anyone?).

I still love being format neutral.
