As a hobby I PC Desktop Stream my 3D Blu-ray Collection on BigscreenVR. It's evolved from the longer SBS processing. To a much easier Rip your 3D Blu-ray and use PC Potplayer's built in MVC 3D Decoder for playback.
But I also dabbled in 2D-3D Conversion Software such as VideoByte and DVDFab which I used on hundreds of Blu-ray movies. Where they had that pushed in, window frame, middle only barely any depth. Then word began to spread of this Expensive but amazing 2D-3D AI Converter in Beta giving great results called Owl3D. Word passed to me because many knew I liked to do 2D-3D Conversions. I was skeptical at 1st but did put myself in the Discord Channel. So I could keep watch on how it the Beta was going. Until I ran into another Bigscreen Streamer. They showed me what they had done with the Owl3D. I was blown away and paid the $139 lifetime price. I've been running a PC 24/7 going on 3 months now pump out 2D-3D Owl3D Conversions of my Blu-ray's. I couldn't be happier with the quality I'm getting. It does a Great Job 👍 I recently tried my 3D Blu-ray German Autoconversions running them in the Owl3D software. I was able to give those 3D movies more depth! Only road block is you need a decent PC to run this software. It needs both CPU/GPU. The GPU need to have minimal 4GB Ram. I started by using a 5 year old Intel build: I7-6700 with a 2080ti It would take 48 hours to render a 2hr Movie. Then I did a new build: i9-14000K with 4080ti. It can do 2 complete renderings of up to 2 hour films in 24 hours. Owl3D changed to a Subscription (any that paid full price prior is Legacy Owner) $10 Monthly now. |

I've seen Owl3D conversions. Terrible. They don't get the little areas, so you get decent depth with large objects, but then you lose proper conversion behind arms or windows.

- It does struggle with random strands of hair that extend beyond the subject's head - The method it uses to fill in the pixels behind a foreground subject (often seen around the edges) isn't perfect. However, they have addressed this and have a new method on the way that supposedly improves this. If they've made this many advances in such a short window of time, I'm excited to see the state of this software a year from now. |

If that's true, then that's awesome. It just seems to have a generic problem with openings. I'd like to see how it handles split diopter shots (as an example). I'd like to convert things too, but I just feel like I'd get frustrated with it until it's better.

I'd give it another crack and see what you think. It's absolutely not perfect... but given we are rapidly approaching a point where no 3D content will be available for home consumption, there's going to be a lot of merit in this software if they continue to make improvements at the current rate.

Just tried the program... It's alright. It does create multiple layers of depth, but those layers are flat so it leads to objects blending into other objects as well as creating something that looks more like a paper puppet theater with little paper puppets on stick within a box stage if that makes sense. Something like this :
![]() It's cool and probably would work well with things like anime such as one piece where the various objects are flat drawings, and that's if it can recognize depth of animations as I only tested one 60 second clip from the beginning of As The Gods Will, but it will likely be a while before it can do conversions of live action stuff pretty well. |

I'll post some stills when I get a chance. The latest version of the software is pretty great. Edit: I converted the latest Linkin Park music video as an example of what the software can do: [Show spoiler]

The current version 1.4.2 is really good and it's faster each release. Owl3D has a version for MAC users now. I've done 80 2D-3D films so far. I stream them on BigscreenVR. If anyone wants to see it. Join my Discord in my Signature I always post when I do Stream either MVC 3D or Owl3D.
I'm a fan of Anaglyph 3-D and just did my 1st with Toho Godzilla 2000 with Owl3D. Came out pretty good. On Sunday's I show 3-D Anaglyph right in my Discord Channel, come check it out. |

I've been keeping my eye on this and have long ago clicked the Apple "Waitlist" button, but nothing so far. Meantime I'm doing conversions on my own using other software, there's a very long thread about it over on the AVS forum if anyone's interested. You need this other software, a very fast computer, and patience, BUT you can get very good results using these methods. However, I'm always open to new software if it can best what I'm currently doing. Improved in-painting would be particularly welcome... S A M 33 Last edited by SMcKissick; 03-01-2024 at 04:17 PM. |

You are better off with local playback. Or at least streaming locally and BigScreen does have that option. Have you tried it? I did some time ago and if I didn't have local playback I would be using that feature.

All other 3D content is my own files which are stored locally on my NAS and which stream without fault - now with the added bonus of enjoying multichannel audio through my A/V receiver (thanks to the advice of your good self). I'm very keen to view some of 'Tricks-OR-Treats' conversions of titles that were never officially formatted for 3D home-video release; but I don't see any point of persisting with 'Tricks-OR-Treats' Bigscreen streams when, for me, I can't achieve a consistent stream that would do them justice. |

I've not tested the very latest version but from previous tests it suffers quite badly from the typical issues that we spend all of our time with the AIPOP-3D Blu-ray releases fixing - missing thin objects/details in depth maps, warping, weird double features and all sorts of general weirdness. I wish it worked then I could just click one button and have a conversion ready to burn onto disc.

I now see I DID get a message from Owl on Sunday that the Mac version is out -
it went in my spam folder of course! So credit to them, my mistake. I had already downloaded it from the beta link - so far, yes, not really able to do as much with it as you can in After Effects/Fusion, BUT I can see for many folks it is still a fun "auto" solution. On their site they say they are working on a "studio" version which presumably will add more control features. I'll be keeping my eye(s) on them to see what they come up with. I think it's GREAT news for us too few 3D enthusiasts that the VR sets are keeping this interest alive. I look forward to continued improvements from various developers in the maps and the in-painting... S A M 33 |
