Warner Bros The Adventures of Superman - 1952-1958

The Adventures of Superman was a TV series starring George Reeves and Phyllis Coates (replaced by Noel Neill after season 1). It is 70 years later and now would be a good time for an anniversary edition on blu-ray, IMO. It may not happen this year, but as fans you can post and talk about the show here. I loved the first season in B/W. It was darker and grittier than the following seasons; not as campy (Where Clark would break the 4th wall). I enjoyed the other seasons, but the first was the best.

Great show.

I think its currently on one of these streaming sites...HBOMAX maybe.

I have a buddy that states that he hates the whole wimpy Clark from the 70's-2000's.
George Reeves Clark is not a wimp, dresses well, and is quite cool.

I remember being a kid and seeing an old Lois Lane in the Superman '78 film.

Most of my WB DVDs are failing on this show (and many others). All replacements are overpriced. A blu ray would be very nice right now.

My favorite superman is definitely the Fleischer animated from the 40s. It's how Superman should be IMHO.

Isn't Fleischer on blu-ray? Or did I imagine that?

Yes it sure is! You can get the complete set on the 5-film Superman Colection blu ray set UK version. Those are on the Superman II disc and they look very good.

This set here (check the closeup of the the back of the sleeve)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Superma...s%2C398&sr=8-1

Editing: just discovered the writing on the back is wrong. There are only 9 of those on that set. bummer.

im watching the first season at night and its good, wholesome entertainment. It also looks sensational for a DVD and for a show of its age. Seems the other seasons are in color for what the OP says? anyway looking forward to watch the rest in glorious color

I have fond memories of watching all six seasons when I was recovering from an operation and unable to concentrate on anything longer than half an hour at a time. I did find the replacement of Phyllis Coates with Noel Neill as Lois Lane from season two onwards problematic - I know she's a fan favourite but I just found Neill's interpretation grating, selfish and unsympathetic - but it's fun to see prolific character actors like Ben Welden turning up several times, sometimes in the same season, in different roles.

I do believe that WB has old HD masters of the show and it's serialized predecessors, made in the early 2000's for the Superman Returns releases. That being said, WB Archive probably thinks those masters are fine for streaming, but not for disc release, which is why we don't have Blu-Ray releases of some notable WB catalog titles.

Several of my DVDs in my original sets went bad as well. I was able to replace them relatively cheaply on eBay.

The old WB DVD sets for this and other shows can often be found at B&N, in the bin for clearance or in the sales racks/section.

I watched this on reruns as a kid, and enjoyed it for the most part. I got to meet Noel Neill a couple of times at Dallas conventions, before she sadly passed away a few years ago. The city of Metropolis, IL even dedicated a statue in her honor, modeled after her appearance as Lois in this show.

Hard to believe considering that Warners issued the Batman TV series on BD years ago. Of course, the lossy audio was a big disappointment, no thanks to Fox's overly compressed original soundtrack.

I'd be happy with just the first and second season released on blu-ray. That would make my day!

Now that Superfriends is out on blu-ray, this (and the movie serials) are the top of my want list on blu-ray. Hopefully WB sees the light soon.

Crossing my fingers that this gets a Blu-ray release next year to go along with the new Superman movie in July. I saw a few episodes here and there as a kid on TV Land and MeTV but never had the opportunity to really get into it. If they could work it out with Paramount, the 'crossover episode' of sorts with I Love Lucy would be a neat addition.

Margot Kidder was actually 28 and 29 when Superman: The Movie was filmed in late 1977. She was 30 when it came out in late 1978.

I wouldn’t call 28-30 years of age old. She did look about 40, though.
