Was looking forward to this until I saw the poor reviews.

[Show spoiler]My friend who is a horror fiend said that you can't approach the movie like either a football movie or a horror movie or you will disappointed. He said it is essentially an allegorical movie with "extreme" visuals. He felt like anyone who thinks the movie is what the trailers show will be disappointed. I will probably watch it on streaming.

Agreed.

The trailers for this one looked pretty intriguing, but now I am holding off on pre-ordering this after the poor reviews.

I don't think this one will sell out any time soon, though. I'll probably catch it on streaming and see it first before buying.

Similar to M3GAN 2.0, it won't sell out at all, lol.

M3gan 2.0 received better reviews overall, and I actually enjoyed that one personally. I already got the steelbook for it. But yeah, it's not selling out any time soon.

Him has had a distinctly worse reception so far. But I am intrigued, so I will be checking it out for myself. I am just not in a rush to see or buy it.

I do have AMC A-List which means I can see it in theaters for free. I may check it out if I find the time.

I've seen people say it's great and I've seen people say it's awful. Both sides have been passionate.

Good rule of thumb is if you're unsure, preorder, and watch it on your local theater's bargain day.

Or if it drops from the theater fast, there's a sign it wasn't great and you'll be able to catch it on streaming hopefully still in time to still cancel.

Tbh idgaf what reviews say. Doesn't mean I don't read peoples opinions on such things. They just don't usually sway my decision whether to see something or not. If i have interest I'll see it. I put an order in but it is one I'll watch then decide to cancel or not. I rarely blind buy these days. Been burned enough to buy a steel cause I want too see it but blind buy cause the steel was great looking to me. Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark for example.

I understand this won’t be for everyone but the bad reviews are completely unwarranted. This is one of the strongest of the year for me, really hypnotic and confidently shot with trippy vibes. Pre-ordered this.

My feeling is that they pushed too hard on the Peele relationship and people are confusing this for Get Out or Us when it's not anything like it. It should have been allowed to stand on its own merits.

Without his name, no one would have seen it.

And with his name came too many expectations.

It was doomed either way.

The other part of the problem is he's put himself in a corner (much like Shyamalan did) with what he does with his films and people come to them now with certain expectations of what he's going to give them.

I also think the hype train for him started to fall off after Nope, and possibly before that when the twilight zone re-re-remake series fizzled.

Probably his "Lady in The Water" moment.

I wish I felt the same. This movie could not end fast enough for me. Also saw a few people leave the theater mid screening. It felt like an uncooked recipe for a great idea. The visuals were the only thing I enjoyed.

*sigh* there is definitely a very good movie in here somewhere. Unfortunately, the execution doesn’t quite land. The ending is quite rushed. Marlon Wayne‘s performance is definitely a stand out though.
I really wanted to like this movie because I think it’s telling a lot of truth that not many people want to open their mind to.

There’s also a weird obsession with playing music the whole movie. I wanted more dialogue.

I think there's plenty of real life stories (even done well in film) that explore the dark side of sports, mentoring, etc that do a much better job on all fronts.

I agree 100% on the music part though. Too many film makers today are afraid to let a scene breathe. Or they think the audience is too dumb to understand what is going on without hitting them over the head with a music cue to tell them "FEEL THIS!"

Not a big fan of Jordan Peele's films, (even though he only produced it), so my expectations are not very high. I definitely need to stream this first,

Perplexed by all the bad reviews. Even funnier to watch Looper have their review of it while attempting to compare it to, Sideways.

While Peele did not direct, it feels within his wheelhouse. The performances are strong as well as the visuals from production design to camera. The film is not trying to reinvent the wheel here. It is a great watch and one that I was never bored by. You can feel focus group meddling as some points feel like pick ups. Marlon steals the show but Tyriq, the lead is ultra commanding while you believe his expressions every step.

I absolutely loved it.
Pre-ordered. But March is a long way to obtain.
I hope there will be features on this thing as studios only supply them usually if a film performs greatly.

I don’t think March will be the actual release date - seems like a placeholder.

I absolutely loved it too. Tyriq was a beautiful muse and I was along for the ride the entire time. Just like the Peele produced Candyman, Him feels like it belongs in the same space as Get Out, Us and Nope. They’re all gorgeous films.

I forgot about that one...and it was another one that got hyped up and fell flat.

I didn't realize how many of his projects that has happen to.

If this one goes the same way, he really has hit that Shyamalan dip in his career.
