Default Video codec ???

Will this determine picture quality? Will a 4 look better then a 1? I did a search before I post, sorry if this is already a thread.

The movies here are reviewed w/ details: mpge 2 , mpge 4 avc, vc-1 all under the video catagory of codec. I could not find any details on these specs to figure out if one is better then the other.

I am no expert, but there are many things that go into how good the video will look.

Condition of the Master
Use of edge enhancers
Average Bit Rates
many other things I either forgot or don't have knowledge of.

From what I've read on the forums, there seems to be high regard for AVC, then MPEG-4, VC-1, MPEG-2.

The version of MPEG-4 used on Blu-ray is AVC. When somebody says "MPEG-4" in the context of a Blu-ray they mean AVC.

The Codec does not necessarily relate to how good a movies Picture quality is. Some MPEG2's are better than AVC's, some VC-1's are better than MPEG2's.

A codec is just a form of compression, taking the video or film data and compressing it to fit on a disc. AVC has the highest compression I believe and bitrate data is the highest on that particular codec from personal experience. Its neither here nor there anyhow, its not like you can buy a movie in either codec, you get what your given.
