Default Now that Blu-ray won the format war; Star Wars?

Think George Lucas will eventually release the trilogy on Blu-Ray?

I voted yes

Yes, he eventually will. No, he's in no rush. Lucas crawls at a snails pace when it comes to releasing the original trilogy. For a guy who moves so slowly he is remarkably rich.

The idea behind most movies is to get it on shelves before the ferver wears down to the point where people don't care about the movie any more. But Star Wars is oddly unique where as it doesn't matter when it comes out, it sells like crazy.

I agree.

I remember a while back when the newer films were being released, George Lucas was talking about High Def. It showed him behind the scenes as he was directing Episode I and was watching the scene playback on HD LCDs in High Def with the special effects on. He said that the problem he'll have to deal with in High Def when its time to release his movies on the next technology is the make-up. He went on to say they had to put darker make-up on the actors to make them look tan as if they had been living on the desert planet for some time. The make-up flaws really showed up on HD.

So obviously Lucas was already thinking about the next gen format at the time since he was already viewing his movies being played back in HD off the video equipment he was shooting with.

I think if we are lucky we might get Star Wars at Christmas, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Most likely Lucas will wait until the format is more mature and in more people's homes before he releases his films on Blu-ray. Who knows, maybe the older Lucas will get pushed from all the right people into releasing them sooner.

I'm never buying Star Wars. I don't even have the standard DVD's. I'm hesitant to buy greedy George's movies because it only encourages him more to double-dip on his most ardent fans. He's a lazy film-maker, and as a poster above me said he'll milk the Star Wars franchise to death.

Would be a dumb move on his part not to. He can release all the movies seperate first, then special editions, then sets of 3 (1-3 and 4-6). And then this christmas the ultimate edition which has everything. Big chunk of change for him.
