So I had gotten the new Fronts and surrounds connected, and now I got my Definitive Technology 14" Reference series Super-Cube connected. Still playing around with the set up, but I'm NOT really blown away by it yet, but it's head and shoulders better than what I had. I am enjoying the new fronts more than anything, but I have to keep watching movies to appreciate the surrounds! I'm starting to think I'd be better served by down-grading my sub, and upgrading with some mono-tube amps to get more out of my Mains/Centers/surrounds.....
I've set it up with an SPL, so I'm just a little dissappointed by the performance of this sub compared to others I've listened to. I think I'm gonna get one of the others I have auditioned previously. |

When you say Reference series 14" supercube, do you mean the actual reference supercube or the one that measures 14"??? If it is the reference, you should probably take it back if you aren't impressed. That is a lot of money to spend on something that only sounds mediocre to you. You can get an SVS ultra for the price of a supercube reference or you could get a nice HSU. I would skip the amps and such for the fronts, a good subwoofer should be all you need now.

Yeah, SVS is online direct only. They come packaged very well, so if you should need to send it back, just save the box. You can get the Ultra for about $1300. I have the 20-39 PC+, just below the ultra and can't imagine needing anything more. It has brought out vibrations that I didn't know I even had. It goes LOW and stays very clear and articulate. I know that I'm only one opinion, but try to find a negative review of an SVS.

I don't know much about your sub and can't seem to access any info on DEF TECH website. Try switching the "Phase" 0-180 on the sub.(if it has a switch)I would also set the "X-OVER" cutoff to 60hz on your receiver. I personally never liked the sound @ a cutoff of 80hz if that is what you are using and play around with the gain. (on the sub and the receiver) I'm guessing you are looking for a little more deep end?
Corner placement may help you tune to a lower freq. Are you using a LFE input on the sub or line level inputs? I have been able to hit around 115db with my Cerwin Vega CLS 12S when listening to music.Obviously depends on what you're listening to. |

One of the most highly rated, by Audiophile and Stereophile magazines, as the most 'musical' subwoofer, having 'tight bass', and exact replication of an instrument or voice, is the Paradigm Studio Reference Servo-15 . It has a 1,500W RMS Amp. with 4,500 W peak reserve. It is Servo Controlled. I have this sub and it is truly amazing with music as well as cinema. Now, the price for this puppy is $2,600.00 . However, it is the only sub I'll ever need! [Jim]
