Default Sony retiring the 80g?

Seems like the 80g PS3 has seen it last days. Now the question is what will follow?

Glad to see you back. I had seen some posts where it looked like maybe someone had been bashing you and you left the site? Would have been a shame since you always seem to add a wealth of knowledge and insight into blu-ray.

I noticed today that the 80GB ps3 doesn't appear on BB website anymore. So they seemed to have purged it from their systems

With the demise of hd dvd you knew this site was going to get some idiots, but if anyone thinks they can drive me out, well lets just say they're delusional.

As to the PS3 there is a rumor that there will be a new one coming soon including a white 40g.

Well amazon has phased out the PS3 80 GB model. I have a friend working for SCEA and he was talking about a white model too. I feel that sony is going to go bigger in terms of HDD capacity. I am eying the 120GB to 160GB mark.

I hope they announce a new unit soon.
Been thinking about getting one, and retiring my BDP-S300 to the bedroom.

My coworker's 80GB broke down last week, after only 2 months of service.
The BD drive just stopped reading anything.
She wanted to exchange it at the store she bought it at and they told her that the 80GB is discontinued. So taking the store credit and most likely settling for a 40GB and some accessories/games, since Sony themselves did not want to exchange the 80 for another 80.... really weird!
BTW this is the 3rd!!! 80GB that died from either friends or coworkers within 4 or 5 months now.
Wonder if there is a serious bug and they pulled the plug on it, since it has not been on the market for that long!?

I still have my 20GB from early Dec 2006 and no problems <knock on wood>
