Question Which is better? Please help!

Hi all,
I'm kind of new to the Home Theater world. I got me a nice setup so far, got a 50" 1080P Plasma, 42" 1080P Plasma, Blu-ray player, Comcast HD/DVR and a 5.1 sound system (want to upgrade to a better system with seperate receiver). I am debating on THIS SYSTEM. It's a 5.1 and I have room for this and it's cheaper in price, but do you think this is a good investment as I am on a budget. Is the receiver alone capable of future upgrades? The reason I ask is because some receivers have the speaker wire and then the speaker wire that you look like plug outlets and eventually would like to upgrade the speakers in the next couple of year. I would like to get a good amount of responses within the next week or should I go with THIS SYSTEM which is a 7.1 system, but will I get the use of all the speakers when watching a Blu-ray considering most movies and music only use 5.1 audio? And where would I put the other 2 speakers? I was thinking on the floor, but don't know. Please help! As I would like to get this within the next 2 weeks!

No HDMI inputs on the first . . it's already outdated.

HDMI passthrough on the second, which means it won't decode audio transmitted via HDMI, which means it's also not up to snuff for Blu-ray. You'll get 5.1, but nothing lossless/uncompressed.

save your money until you can afford an Onkyo TX-SR605.

(also the Onkyo HT-SR908...which is a 605 with speakers included)

I would get this, but rather not buy a receiver with a built in dvd player. I have this now, and I hate it. It looks horrible. What about the HT-SR750? It has HDMI...

Or should I get the HT-SR800? I like it a lot, it can work with my Blu-ray, but only one problem stopping me to get this or the HT-SR700 is the 2 extra speakers. Where would I put them? How do you all have yours set-up?

The DVD player is not "built in".

Its separate, so if you didn't want to use it you don't have to. You can always sell it on eBay

but if I was looking to buy something "new" for Bluray audio...I would not go any lower than the Onkyo 605.

Do you know which receiver is part of the Onkyo HT-SP904 package? I see that it is a 5.1 instead of 7.1 of the 605 included in the HT-SP908 package, but for $150 less at Crutchfield will it do everything else other than the 2 extra speakers? Or does it go back to the types of decoders it has?

I'd recommend you take a more modular approach, even if it takes longer to assemble all the pieces. Get a 'good' receiver with features that meet your needs now, as well as addressing future aquasitions. Be future proof and buy once, not over and over again. same would apply for Speakers, and the speaker selections will depend on your entertainment lifestyle. If it's more Cinema oriented, place your priority of speaker size and dollars into your Center and your Subwoofer, if you lean more towards Music, then the priority goes to a great pair of full range tower speakers. If you enjoy both, well, then your like me, dig deeper into the wallet or save up. Don't compromise quality for quantity. I started out with just a pair of tower speakers for the longest time, saving up for some of the other speakers and sub. What I didn't do was settle for less than outstanding. I only wanted to do this once and be done with it. So, for what its worth, buy excellent product one piece at a time. Now, that requires discipline [Jim]
