Default Worth buying Sony KDS-R70XBR2 70"?

Is it worth buying a new (discontinued model) Sony KDS-R70XBR2 for $3000CND with an extra lamp. Anyone have this TV and how does it compare to LCDs?

IIRC it doesn't have 1080p24fps....

I'd save ~$1000 and get a Sony KDS60a3000. only a 60" though....still huge and superb pq

I have owned a 70in xbr2 since last August and I can tell you that it is well worth buying. I still have not seen a better picture on any TV. If you can get it for $3000, it's like busting the window and stealing it from the store.

I'll agree with that, it's originally a $7k TV IIRC. That plus the lamp would be great.

+1... I own one and will buy it again and again. At that price it should be illegal. This is the best 70" TV and it will be a long time before I will consider any kind of upgrade. I have to warn you though, once you go to a screen size that big there is no going back to a smaller TV, everything else looks way too small.

You can get a Mits 73" Diamond DLP for about $500 more. That is the way I would go.

I just saw $3000CDN. I am sorry, I am not sure what the Mits runs there. It could be more than a $500 difference.

If I were you I would look into it. If it is within $500 and you can afford another $500, it will be an easy decision, especially if you compare PQ.

I have the Sony, and compared it side by side with the Mitsubishi, at great length. The Sony wins, hands down.

I will say that the Mitsubishi has better black levels; but for overall contrast, speed, color, picture, on and on and on, nothing beats the Sony.

I sold both. Mits diamond has better blacks which gives it better overall color.

SXRD/Lcos/LCD are all better suited for front projectors than rear-projection.

DLP rear projection will go away soon just like CRT did.

CRT going away was the saddest day. DLP will be next.
