Default ipod or mp3 player recommendation?

hi, i am interested in buying one of these to load all my cd music on. i have seen alot of different ones on ebay and alot of generic ones that look like ipods for alot less money. i read and heard that alot of them have flash memeory that may be hacked or not the full amount that they state? anyways i was looking for some opinions on this subject from expirienced ipod or mp3 owners and any recommendations you may have. i also heard that the batteries may die in a year (can they be replaced?) and also the flash memory goes bad after a while and some serious use? any help is much appreciated. thanks

There are many great MP3 players out there. I've used a few and never really made the ipod jump until I got one for my wife about 2 years ago. I loved it. I bought a used ipod online and just enjoyed the functionality of the OS and design of the unit itself over other players. I just bought an ipod touch and love it even more.

How big is your CD collection? I get just about all of mine on the 32gb iPod touch.

I can vouch for both the iPod and the Zune. Both are great at doing what they do, which is about te same thing, only running different software on the PC end.

Other than that, they both fit my collection great.

I bought the 32GB ipod touch which is exhorbitant if I didn't have Best Buy gift cards left over from Christmas. The iPod Video I bought a little over a year ago still works like a charm. It was used, but in great condition and I got it for $150. If I were buying new today and the touch wasn't an option I would go for the 80GB iPod Classic.

I have about the same number of CD's if not a little more and I rip them at 192kbps and still have enough space left over. I think 30GB should be your minimum.

There are a bunch of iPod Classics on ebay right now for around $150 and up. Something to think about if you don't want to spend the money to go new.

thanks, so a 8 GB ipod is pretty much useless then? the 8GB say they hold 2500 songs? is that not enough? thanks

hi, thanks for the reply. my cd collection is only about 200 disc's. how much are the ipod touch going for? are the generic versions online like ebay just as good or would you just spend the money on the ipod? also what are the life expectancies on them and the batteries? have you had any problems with yours? thanks again
