PS3 and HDMI for audio - Blu-ray Forum

I was wondering about the PS3 and HDMI audio. I heard people saying they have this setup, I was just wondering is this through a split HDMI cable b/c I have one of the first gen. PS3's (if that matters) and it only has one HDMI output, as far as I know. Just wondering how this works. And do you think I should just by a new receiver or should I go with both the receiver and the speakers?

i only have one hdmi output on my 40gb ps3 too but i have it run to my receiver and then from my receiver to my tv all via hdmi

Ok that makes sense. So do all receivers have an input and an output?

If they have an atleast one HDMI input...they should have one output as well.

I have a launch day 20GB PS3...yes you should use HDMI if possible. (all PS3 versions has same A/V capabilities)

With a compatible Receiver you can hear up to 7.1PCM audio (which is best of the best)

also if you are interested in buying a new Receiver, let us know your budget and we can point you in the right direction. For starter systems with Lossless audio you are looking close to $250 and higher. (speakers not included)

All PS3's have the same connections, as far as A/V (HDMI, proprietary A/V connector, and optical). And a Ethernet port.
