Default Hdmi=hdcp???

Hi guys.

I just found this forum and I would extremely appreciate it if someone could help me out with this issue:

A few weeks ago I bought a Sony VAIO laptop with blue-ray. Then, I bought a projector (Epson 1705 powerlite), which didn't support High Definition playing, since it didn' have an HDMI input. I took it back and I bought a Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi HC1500 1600 Lumens 720p 16:9 HDMI Home Theater), for which the salesman ASSURED me that would play Blue-Ray movies from my laptop.
A few hours ago, when I had everything ready to watch a BD movie with my g/f, the f..... computer showed the same msg was shown with Epson projector: "Your display environment does not support protected content playback" (the movie comes out properly on my computer though - once I connect the projector stops and I see the previous msg).

Please, can you tell me if I need to try sth else, or this msg means that my projector, even if suports HDMI does NOT support HDCP?

Thank you in advance for your help...

A

Thank you my friend. I was about to return the projector (for 2nd time!) today.
Let me please ask you, do I need to connect ANY OTHER (ok, I don't mean the AC adaptor ) cable except for the HDMI cable between my laptop and my projector?

Thank you for your help!

Yes. I can watch those (Blue-Ray) movies on my laptop. Once I connect the projector, the disk stops and that error msg appears on the screen.
Today I returned the projector and on Wednesday I'll have a new one (BEnQ MP730), which, according to any website I saw, does support HDCP. I'll tell you on Wednesday my fiend.

Thanks, anyway!

To replay protected HD video, you need a source and a display that will process at least 720p and 1080i video, and most importantly, either HDMI or DVI connections that both support HDCP.

So it could be that your PC has (presumably) a DVI output that doesn't support HDCP. That seems unlikely though, if you can play BDs on the PC screen itself.

HDMI, by the way, doesn't have to support HDCP. According to the HDMI spec, HDCP is optional but recommended. In practice, any manufacturer would be mad not to incorporate it, and I believe they all do.
