Default DTS-MA,DOLBY D, DTS CORE 1.5 comparison

*mods this has to do with the ps3 and receiver so this can go anyware*
ok so for the past 3 hours iv been comparing these audio codec's cause iv been seeing post on here and avs about how the 1.5 core sounds the same as MA. or the receiver sounds better than the ps3 ect, ect. you know the usual talk on ps3 vs receiver. so i decided to do a little comparison myself and here is what i came up with:
receiver is on 23db and the movie im using is live free die hard
BITSTREAM-dolby digital vs dts core= they both sound the same
BITSTREAM-dts core vs LPCM MA with ps3 volume level on normal= they both sound the same
BITSTREAM-dts core vs LPCM MA with ps3 volume level on +2= MA sounds better
DOLBY DIGITAL: BITSTREAM VS LPCM with ps3 volume on normal= bitstream sounds better
DOLBY DIGITAL:BITSTREAM VS LPCM with ps3 volume on +2= they sound the same but bitstream sounds better "only" in action scenes(gunshots, explotions, car crash ect)
LPCM-dolby digital vs dts-ma with ps3 volume on normal= MA sounds alot better
LPCM-dolby digital vs dts-ma with ps3 volume on +2= MA sounds even better
BITSTREAM-dolby digital vs LPCM MA with ps3 volume on normal=MA sounds a little better
BITSTREAM-dolby digital vs LPCM MA with ps3 volume on +2=MA sounds better

My only question (which I pretty much already know the answer to) is...did you level match? That means you need a sound meter to determine that the volume is equal from bitstream to LPCM, etc. Otherwise, louder will likely equal better to a lot of people. LPCM from the PS3 is lower in volume than bitstreaming DD or DTS to a receiver. The sound is bit for bit exactly the same (LPCM from DD or DD bitstreamed).

Keeping the volume knob at the same level, between LCPM from decode DD and DD being bitstreamed on the PS3, will not achieve an accurate result. But, thank you for going through all the trouble.

Anytime you pump up the volume, it'll sound "better" than if you didn't. This is science fact. What you may wanna do is play this as close to reference level as you can - that's 0dB - and do not change the volume after it has been set.

I believe you're using a DVD to get Dolby Digital on DH4. Instead of swapping discs, rip a chapter of DH4 onto a flashdrive and play through that. You might also want to use some sort of audio analyzer to make your results more scientific.

I also think the diffence in sound in these codecs has to do with how it was mixed from the studio? cause jarassic park DD sounds better when decoded by the ps3 than my receiver. but as you can see here with die hard its the opposite, unless i change the ps3 volume to +2. and even then the receiver still has more puch than the ps3.
