Default Watchmen DC and UC sound problems?

When I put the Watchmen Blu-ray on my player, either version, the voices sound a bit low and the sounds like gun shots, explosions sound really, really loud. Does anybody else have this problem? Can anybody tell me how to fix it? Thanks

There's a couple of questions we'll need answered in order to help you:

What brand / model is your blu-ray player?
Is the audio run directly to your TV, or is it run to a receiver?
Do you pull the audio out of the HDMI signal, or is it hooked up via an optical cable or RCA cables?
Lastly, have you watched / listened to other blus and those don't have this problem as well?

I have a Sony BDP-S350 player hooked with an HDMI cable to the TV. I hooked the speakers of my home theatre to the TV. The sounds from the TV, Blu-ray and DVD come through there. I have like 80 blus, and this is the only one that has this problem

Yeah it's just one of those movies that is meant to be played with dialogue at a comfortable volume and action sequences at an "oh dear god my ears" volume.

Honestly, I've never felt that way about Watchmen. Sure, the action stuff is louder than the dialogue (as it should be) but nothing to make me grab the remote to turn the audio down.

I don't think it's any different than most action movies. Loud things sound loud. Though to ears used to modern music mastering, I could see how dynamics might be an alien concept. Your reciever probably has some kind of dynamic range compression/night mode/whatever function to even things out.

My best guess is that there's nothing wrong or that needs to be fixed. I think that's how the movie's audio was mixed for both the theater and home theater experience. Dialogue is lower so that sound effects have greater impact - explosions, bullets, etc are meant to jolt you in the theater and sound designers carry that over for the home theater experience.

If you have a receiver that has Dynamic Volume on it you can use that.
