Default Scrooge (Albert Finney musical)

This came out Oct. 11th and I'd be interested in getting it, but from the review here on Blu-ray.com for the U.S. edition, and the reviews at Amazon UK about their version, the Blu in both countries is missing the overture and that could be a deal breaker.

The missing overture is a deal breaker for me. Kind of amazing that they would neglect to include it, especially on the Blu-ray.

Would love to see some extra's on the Blu-ray too (commentary, a retrospective, etc).

Am going to hang onto my Scrooge DVD until they at least add the overture.

You'd rather watch the whole movie in standard def just because the overture is missing?

Frankly there's next to no chance a catalog title like this is going to be reissued again, so personally I'd go with the Blu. Transfer is great, and if you have the Overture on DVD, you can always play it and then go back to the Blu-Ray. It's not as if the movie is impacted by it not being there...most of us grew up with the movie on TV and it was never played, ever, on those broadcasts. (Not giving CBS a pass for excluding it -- just saying, for me it's not a dealbreaker)

I've never seen this before but fancy getting it for this Christmas. So the BD misses out on the Overture, but has restored the Exit Music. Does that mean the old DVD does not include the Exit Music?

Should I get the DVD or BD?

Unless you just can't live without the overture -- which is strictly a few minutes of music before the film with no footage of any kind -- the blu-ray is a no-brainer. Beautiful picture and sound, and a substantial upgrade over the DVD. And again, you're not missing any of the film itself.

Wholeheartedly agree. The opening credits and musical cues on the Blu-ray are absolutely captivating and will draw you instantly into the narrative. I have never seen the overture, but can't imagine that a few minutes of missing music would be that detrimental to the film as a whole. This superb take on "A Christmas Carrol" is infinitely entertaining, and brilliantly acted and produced. This musical version and the 1951 classic are our perennial "go to" holiday favorites. Enjoy!

Thanks guys. Blu Ray it is then.

I've been watching the Muppets version for the past 10 years and fancy a different musical this year.

EDIT: just wanted to confirm, the exit music is present in both the DVD and BD versions?
