Default Lars and the Real Girl

It was not what I expected from the description, and it was a bit slow. I expected more of a teeny bopper type comedy rather than a dark adult comedy. It was pretty good. The raves were about the screenplay and the acting of Ryan Gosling, but I think Emily Mortimer and Paul Schneider were simply rock solid in portraying how a good and caring couple would react to the situation and interact with each other. Patricial Clarkson was great, too, but Mortimer and Schneider made the story seem real. The snow in the yard was fake. Early on, you could see Emily Mortimer kick up some of the toilet-paper like stuff while running across the yard. Another example of a Canadian movie with a needless U.S. setting. I really can't see this going over in Wisconsin, where the movie was set, but perhaps a remote town in northern Ontario would have worked.

I thought this was a really good film, and it snuck right up on me. I thought that Ryan Gosling gave a great performance, but like you said, the cast all around was sensational. It's a very heartwarming movie, and reminded me of what I'd do if someone in my family was stricken in the same way as Ryan Gosling's character was in this movie. I think far too often, our society is overly critical of people and always have the 'right answer' for someone's problems, yet we completely forget about the actual person and what he or she are experiencing at the time. Humoring someone for the sake of their well-being isn't asking for a lot, and you could even change someone's life with such a simple act of kindness.

It's a great movie, and I'd definitely recommend it to others out there that haven't yet already seen this one. It's not your typical fare, and it really touched me.

Emily Mortimer was the standout in this movie, hands down. Lars and the real girl is a movie I think everyone should see, great story and characters, deals with issues that are tough to talk about. I really liked the movie and the towns reaction. There were so many points in the movie where no dialogue was on screen, but warranted alot of reaction from the intended audience. A very well done movie, great rental.

I agree. My wife wanted to rent this more than I did, but it's one of those quirky movies that sneaks up on ya. I thought Patricia Clarkson, as the doctor was awesome. She had some great dialogue.

Funny side note here. These dolls are really sold, and they cost upwards of $7,000.

Yep, sounds familiar, wife and I watched it too, found it to be a great surprise.

Did you watch the making of the movie on the DVD? We did, worth it, talks about the characters, idea of the script, etc..and mentions there REALLY is a site for those things...sad but funny...

Yeah, we try to watch all of the features when we can. I found the background on the dolls interesting. The level of detail that goes in to making one of these is incredible, don't know if they're worth $7k, but apparently some people think they are.

I paid a visit to the website out of curiousity. There are kits these things come with for that very reason.

I enjoyed the movie. The concept is so ludicrous that I didn't take this movie too seriously but I think the movie could have been a whole lot better. Ryan Goslin was effective, he was innocent and damaged and that was portrayed nicely. Nothing great but it was good enough. Again, like most have said, I thought the supporting actors were fabulous.

My main complaint with the film was the lack of insight on the community. This is definitely a feel good movie when the town gets involved but it just wasn't portrayed effectively. Most of what Bianca meant to the community was implied and never realized on screen. I never truly believed that the community opened up to the doll.

The movie was a joy to watch because it was consistently uncliche and very heartwarming. I really like how it played out. Definitely not one of my favorites but its unique and well acted.
