Guitar Hero III question... - Blu-ray Forum

Well, I have Rock Band, and I like it alot. I never played any of the Guitar Hero games...I am considering buying Guitar Hero III for my PS3 now that I am addicted to the music gaming. Anyway here is my question...

Will I be able to use the Guitar Hero III guitar and play the old Guitar Hero games (1 or 2, for example) on my PS3 with the new G.H. 3 guitar?

Or can I only play Guitar Hero III?

Nope. Activision intentionally locked out the RB guitar.

It does work the other way round

GH 1 and 2 do not work with the GH3 guitar either. Basically they changed around the input methods to stop rock band and crippled the first 2 at the same time. Supposedly there's a patch coming

Ok, so the G.H. 3 guitar will work with Rock Band, but the Rock Band guitar won't work with Guitar Hero III?

And, even if I do purchase G.H. III I can't play G.H. 1 or 2 on my PS3? Not now anyway?

The special edition GHIII controller will NOT work with rock band yet (there is supposed to be a patch coming out, this applies to the PS3 version only. I haven't heard any confirmation of the regular controller working on PS3 yet.)

GH I + II will not work properly on the PS3. You can get adapters to allow the old controllers to kinda work, but they lose some of their important features.

It shouldn't take long for the issues to be corrected I imagine. Personally, I'd just take the money that GH III would cost and buy a bunch of new tracks for rock band

Pretty much the way I see it.

I'm still praying for some Pearl Jam and Guns n Roses, though I'm pretty sure Appetite for Destruction will be an album download

I agree with Tim Quinn and his answers are correct to my knowledge.

The GH3 controller definitely does not work with GH1 and 2, I tried it myself.

GH3 is a fun game, but it's difficulty level is definitely higher than Rock Band.

As he also said, the GH3 controller currently doesn't work with Rock Band, but everyone is definitely hoping that there will be a patch (I know I'm hoping, I want to be able to do 4 player on Rock Band).

Well, we know that Harmonix did up Welcome to the Jungle on RB for a fact

As one of the single greatest metal albums ever, the sales would be huge.

They already have half the job done on Sweet Child

I know this is an old thread. But, I was wondering if they ever came out with a patch that will let me use my PS3 Guitar Hero guitar to play the old PS2 Guitar Hero games?

Will they ever be compatible?

No, there was never a patch, and never will be it seems. There is the new Ant Commando adapter that lets you use a PS2 guitar with GH3, Rock Band, and GH1 for PS2 (but NOT GH2 or 80s), but that probably won't help you...

Lame. I guess the only way I could play GH 1, 2, and 80's is to buy a PS2 again...
