Blu-ray.com Review

Thanks for the review, though there's one point which needs clarification. An important one.

The story this film is based on, was not an urban myth as such. More of a made-up explanation of a real suicide.

You can read the full story here:

I'll be honest. I watched this movie totally blind (meaning I knew nothing of its plot or premise outside of the name) and felt cheated after about an hour or so. The movie does look beautiful at times and it was carefully shot, but I don't know if the story was worth an entire feature.

Having never heard of this urban legend before, I think one would be lost without an understanding of contemporary trends in Japanese society. Particularly the pressures on twentysomething career women in Japan.

To my surprise, Best Buy had this in stock today for $12.99 (I assume Amazon was only matching BB's price). Unfortunately, I got a copy with a broken case - it's in one of the flimsy eco-cases and there's no slipcover. Oh well. At least the BD looks like it's in good shape.

An interesting film. Not something I really enjoyed but that may be because I had expectations going in.

So I watched this tonight. First off, I enjoyed it. It was good, etc. etc.

One thing that caught me off guard was how depressing it was. I suppose I was expecting something a little more lighthearted and humorous, but man... this was not that. Very depressing character study.

Still quite engaging, though. That ending.

I hope the movie is better than the case it came in. First BD I've ever received with completely collapsible packaging.

Yeah, that unexpected tone was what made me a little lukewarm on it when I first watched but I expect I'd enjoy the experience a lot more now, knowing what it's actually like

See I didn't think this was depressing at all. Yes she
[Show spoiler] died but she went after what she wanted and let nothing stop her.
How many people can say that?

She was delusional, and clearly had mental health issues. Her perseverance was admirable, but in the end, it just
[Show spoiler]got her killed.
