Default Need a little advice please. . .

I'm going to purchase a new hd television for the bedroom. My budget is probably around $800. I am going to be watching this mainly late at night so lighting will be very dark. Televsion size is probably going to be 22"-32".

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good lcd? After shopping around a bit I am very confused by what I have seen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first, at that size you do not need 1080p, 720p or 1080i will be sufficient for the size your looking at. you should simply check out cnet.com for your comparision shopping. you'll find that samsung, sony, pioneer, and panasonics are going to command a higher price that say westinghouse, vizio and other off brand companies. it doesn't mean that paying more will get you a better tv, but in some instances it does. that's for you to discover.

good luck

InsigniaŽ - 42" 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV ($799)

I believe you should go as big as you can...

connect to this: Acoustic Research - Power Conditioner with 7 Outlets ($30)

How far away will you be typically viewing the television from?

I have a 32" Sharp Aquos (720P) that I'm pretty happy with. One of the differences in price is the quality of the scaler. This will be most noticable when you're watching SDTV. I wouldn't get that size unless you'll be sitting about 6' feet away. (I see somebody's asked that already.) If you're farther, go bigger.

You'll find some good information on TV size & technology here. Hopefully it will help clear up some of the confusion.

For viewing in the dark, there's no such thing as a "good LCD". Get a plasma TV, and you'll be much happier. (Speaking as a Sharp Aquos owner...)

really?

the one in BB looks pretty nice.

I am also in the same situation, but I am not too sure if I want to go for 32" or 37 to 42"

looking for my master BR tv.

I currently have a very nice set that is 720P 26" from Westinghouse.

Quite satisfied with everything except the SIZE.

I lie about 8 feet away from the TV. So, I am thinking a 32 at least or possibly a 37/42".

Looking at Toshiba Rez an Sharp 37" 720P. However, I am really thinking to try to get 1080P if possible.

(possibly the new Sony 32 XBR6, 1080P/24p/120HZ) for $1200.

Worth the price tag? I would try to stay under $1000.

It would (the Sharp is a nice TV, as far as LCDs go, though not in XBR4 territory). But the display conditions at your local store (TV settings on "sear your eyeballs to look impressive in the store", and bright lights everywhere) are not likely to be anything like those in your bedroom.

okay so listen, you can get a good 32 inch samsung for around 800 the new models for this year are cheaper than last year. samsung and sony are the 2 best lcd brands and this year the samsungs are probably better because sharp manufactures sony's panels now instead of samsung.

799 for a 42' 720p TV? Something is fishy...

This is just personal preference. I have had bad experience with korean brands. Samsung, Innostream, etc... so... I'll stay away from them actually.

Looking at Sharp, Toshia or Sony. I have found a few nice deals on Sony 40 V2500 at $1050 at some local shops in Philly. I am thinking if I should jump on them and they are 1080P.

But 40 might be a lttle big for my BR.

OR should I just save the money and get a 37" Toshiba for $800.(but 720P)

Insignia is an off name brand. But user reviews are good.

I have a 32" Dynex (off name brand ) and I love it. Insignia is almost the same thing so I bet the plasma is nice.
