Question New player soon. Which one

Well my wife has talked me into giving my PS3 to my son in college. She said I could by a new player sometime in July for my birthday. Now I am looking at the Sony BDP-S550 and the Pioneer BDP-51FD. I will be using the analog outs and letting the player decode as my receiver has 7.1 inputs. I know the Sony will not be released till sometime in August. I might decide to wait and compare both players. Thanks.

You'll most likely get better sound out of the Pioneer.. and it won't be as ugly on your shelf as the Sony hehe

No analog outs on that 298.00 Magnavox BD player (had to skimp somewhere but that's a good price ). I'd go for the Pioneer myself.

Still encouraging nontheless for blu and as long as it bitstreams the advance codecs (it obviously doesnt decode for the price).

$298 in May 2008..., imagine this Christmas

The Sony will most likely be 2.0.. not that it matters to some but why not for the money. Is the Pioneer worth $200 more, if it is get the Pioneer.

Pioneer has no ethernet connection , that is unacceptable today.

Pioneer Elite. I have the 95. It is great. No problems playing anything. I was thinking about the new Denon but after side by side there was no benefit to switch. The upconvert on the Pioneer is awesome. I have many DVD's that I probably will not buy on Blu because they look so good with the Pioneer.

Equip;
Sam 5084 1080p
Denon 4308ci
Elite BDP_95FD
Def Tech 7002's, 2500 center, 2 UIW BPZ/A, and 2 UIW 84/A
Denon DVD3930ci

My only concern is best audio/Video playback. I only watch movies. Will be changing out the Mitsubishi projector before the end of the year with a 1080p unit. And I hope the end of the year brings some great movies AKA extended LOTR.
