Default Help with my receiver!

So i'm relatively new to receivers and all audio and I had a couple of questions. So i just bought the Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH and it's awesome, but for some reason, it wont do Dolby TruHD or DTS HD audio. It will only display PCM or just the regular Dolby Digital. I have my receiver hooked up HDMI and my PS3 is my blu ray player. And yes I did use movies that had the Dolby TruHD and the DTS audio, if anyone has any suggestion I would greatly appreciate it!

I haven't used that model receiver, but my thought is this:
Your PS3 is outputting LPCM, not bitstreamed TruHD or DTS HD, so it won't display on the receiver, even though it is being decoded by the PS3 correctly.

You can confirm this by checking the output settings on your PS3.

Default here ya go.

The pioneer elite 94thx is a good receiver, i must say. i owned one for about a week then i moved to the denon 3808ci and ive been rediculously happy.

to the problem at hand. you will not see that little dts hdma or dolby true hd light come up on your receiver because its only getting the LPCM signal from the ps3. the ps3 lacks the ability to bitsteam that information, thus its doing the decoding internally in th eps3, when bitstreaming to the receiver it will be doing the decoding and thats when youll see the hdma or truehd light light up. no worries though, your hearing the uncompressed tracks(as long as its been selected in the burays menu) and your getting the best sound possible. the only benifit to having the decoders built in to the receiver s if you havea bluray player that cannon decode internally. most that are out now can do it internally, though there is an argument that having th receiver do the decoding will lead to a better sound, for now i remain speculative of that claim. hope this helps.

You need to also click on the display button for the PS3 so it shows what audio is being played in the top right hand side of the black bars on the screen. If it still says Dolby digital then click on the audio button on the PS3 blu-ray remote or press the select button on the PS3 controler and bring up the menu box and click audio that way. Most movies I play I have to click the audio to "English2" to get the HiDef audio
