Why do some blu ray movies look better than others? I have noticed there are a couple movies I own that do not seem to be as sharp or detailed looking.
Is it related to the studios that make the disks? |

This is very delicate question to answer as it involves the evolution of the little round thing we now call a dvd. With the circular motion which in fact makes things go round and round they encompassed a laser to read that disc, the blu laser in fact is used to read what we call blu-rays.
Now with that said the grainy look could be a couple os factors, camera used, film stock, age of film, directors intention and or a WB release ![]() But welcome to the forums (the top part was meant to be funny ![]() |

Some times it is I know a lot of the time Warner used alot of the same encodes for both HD DVD and Blu Ray. There by meaning they would incode the movie for HD DVD because they had a max of 30 gigs and Blu Ray has a max of 50 gigs.
With an older movie like the Terminator it is the condition of the negative used in the transfer. A fair number of early Blu Rays did not look good because they were only 25 gigs. I heard the 25 gig Columbia/ Tristar movies did not look to good because they had Uncompressed PCM on them, and Uncompressed PCM runs at 4.6 mbps regardless of the action on the screen. |

- different sized BDs. For some reason, some studios use 25gb BDs for some of their movies. I don't get why. - different video codecs - some codecs are sharper, some are softer, etc. |

It way more than that
First there's the Equipement Used and how the cam operator do they job right Then the type of Film or HD Cam used Then There's what the directors want Then there's the Downscaling of the video Then there's the compression... |
