Default Warner Shutting Down Warner Premiere

According to "The Wrap" Warner Bros is shutting down Warner Premiere...the department that has brought us all the really good DC animation movies. This really sucks.

Citing the downturn in the home entertainment industry, Warner Bros. shut down direct-to-video label Warner Premiere this summer, TheWrap has learned.

This will not effect Warner animation. They'll simply be put out under the WB name as apposed to WP. This only effects the itty DTV live action stuff they were releasing (Trick 'r Treat aside, although that really doesn't count).

What the hell? I can understand the financial reasoning, but that's very disappointing. The DC DTV films have consistently been the best on the market. I'm sure the quality of the releases won't decrease, but it still sucks that their subsidiaries are fizzling out.

This is interesting though. I would've expected more layoffs.

"Folks"? Did I say DC Animation was in danger? It simply means (to me at least) that they aren't bringing in the money to keep that division open. So the DTV films aren't making as much as they'd like.

The home video market is in decline and this is a way to shave a few extra costs. No one has to worry about the animated DC movies, though I would not expect much more from their BDs in the future but the movie itself.

The home video market is in the decline? Since when? I don't care who says what: downloading, uploading, sideways loading is nothing compared to physical media and never will be. That is a LOAD of BS.

"Folks" was in reference to you as well as the original poster (as well as anyone else that may misread things).
I suggest DoctorD edit his posts so as not to freak a bunch of fans out.

Even though I knew their DC Animation schedule would remain intact, for some reason I still thought this closure was an indication of disappointing sales from ALL WB Premier releases. Given the WB Premier logo and title screen appear on the DC animated DTV releases, I attributed that to those releases as well. My bad, it's a little late.

Total home video revenues peaked several years ago in Hollywood and have never recovered. Blu-ray sales can't make up for the attrition in DVD sales.

I never understood the need for the line in the first place. The Warner Bros. brand name is probably the most well-known and respected name in the entire industry, and it's not like these were movies that were somehow not in line with other Warner Bros. titles (e.g. Touchstone is "adult Disney" fare), so to me, it just seemed like a wasted effort to re-brand them.

Yes, the DC, which is Warner's biggest DTV label, is likely to come out under its own brandname, while the Lost Boys sequels and Get Smart spinoffs are sadly coming to an end.

Speaking of Warner Premiere, what the hell happened to THIS release: http://www.thehdroom.com/article.php?id=3532

I guess this means Lost Boys 4 probably isn't going to happen anytime soon then. Oh well.

It's not in decline, not as a whole. It's just not growing at the rate it did back in the early 2000's. It's the fad right now of bad internet journalism to speculate that discs are dying and the agenda of certain companies and their publications to push a digital future, but there's little to no truth in it in terms of current sells, despite the economy. Though, technically, digital is still part of the home video market, so to say that home video is dying implies digital isn't doing so hot either.

Home video sells have leveled, matured is a much more accurate description. While BD adoption is still climbing at a strong rate, the home video market as a whole is climbing at only a mild to moderate one, which isn't all that unexpected for a market that essentially began it's revolution 15 years ago. But to say it's in decline (I know you're probably just repeating what you've heard from presumably trustworthy sites), is almost completely unfounded outside of the realm of market speculation at this point, usually one motivated by ignorance of actual sells or an agenda - be it sensational, unresearched online reporting or fueled by another internet misinformation campaign. Microsoft didn't give up with the demise of HD DVD, they've just gotten smarter.

According to past predictions of some companies - namely Microsoft, Toshiba, and Universal - discs should already be dead.

Frankly, I'm in the business and don't knoe what to think. I do know that by and large none of us here represent more than a decent niche in this thing at the moment. Don't believe me, when's the last time there wasn't a wait at your freaking local RedBox and how many in this forum honestly have used one of those in the last year?

Things are amorphous and changing. Fracturing and it's difficult to track.

This is what I was thinking when I heard the news. I might be in the minority but I actually enjoyed both sequels (although 3 was ALOT better than part 2).

Actually most of the stuff Warner Premier put out I enjoyed, but I will admit that most of the movies I only rented and did not buy - which didn't help the business model all that much.
