Default (Rumor) In-game XMB this June Firmware 2.40

We've finally received word that the long awaited, and much rumored, PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.40 is indeed the real deal and is said to be coming relatively soon. Many of the most requested features, such as a universal friends list and in-game messaging will be included, in addition to a few rather nice surprises (*cough*soundtracks*cough*). We definitely can't divulge all of the details, but trust us, it's coming.
We aren't yet 100% sure of the actual release date, but all signs point to sometime in June. We're guesing that Sony will probably detail 2.40 in the coming weeks. Source

In Gaf an EA man confirms something more than just XMB... speculations , Include Trophies or Video download etc Source

Videogaming247 has it on good authority that the upcoming PS3 Firmware 2.4 will include in-game XMB and Trophy support.

We’re told that the added XMB feature allows users to play their own music in-game.

Programming tools to support the update have apparently now gone out to developers.

We’re unaware that a release date for the software has been set. Sony has already said that in-game XMB wil be added to PS3’s functionality this summer.

This is unconfirmed. Just remember where you heard it first. Source

Whats Universal friends list? This will be sweet but the only personal problem is for me when playing COD4 online and trying to hear people sneaking up on you, gun fire and when your claymores go off.

That means that in any game you can invite a friend by going to the xmb and sending a friend invite.

Damn, Forgot to read through the 101 page thread to read a bunch of nonsense opinions mixed with a couple posts of real news every few pages...

Maybe they should delete the first 80 or 90 pages of that thread so current information is easier to find.

Jim is VERY reliable and credible.

The fact that JS and evilone confirmed it makes this a certainty and not a rumor.

For those who haven't perused, I believe evilone works for Electronic Arts, and jstevenson works for Insomniac. If they say it's great, it's most likely great.

There's really very little worth going through the NeoGAF thread for. Just the initial story and 2 or 3 respected devs confirming (in their own way) the presence of exciting features in the next update.

No specifics so don't take the discussion of stuff like YouTube upload support in every game as confirmation of its inclusion.

"This just in… The FW 2.40 info is just pouring in.

While this still isnt confirmed by Sony, yet another feature in 2.40 has been unearthed.

The XMB will now display the date and time in the upper right hand corner.

Rumor, until its finally confirmed officially.

Note: I just noticed you can actually see the clock in action, in the new trophy demonstration video posted by Medran of Maxconsole"

It may seem like a minor update - But i hate not being able to tell the time. Sometimes ill be sitting there playing Warhawk, then all of a sudden its 2AM when i have to get up for work.

Been waiting for this forever.

This would be a big thing if I cared about playing online games.. but I'm a single-player game type. I don't need 5 y/o kids screaming in my ears when they get cut-off in a race or whatever. What would be nice is if they add the ability to play your own music during the game and add the feature to sort your music by Artist THEN Album. Not just one or the other. So you can select the band name then find the album you want instead of waiting 5 minutes for the 200 songs to load from a single artist.

Secondly they need to add a screenshot ability.
