Default Blu-ray Goes to China

Quote:
(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) BEIJING, Jan 30, 2007 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --SinoCast ?C While China's native EVD alliance has just formed, Blue-ray and HD-DVD, which are based on Japanese technologies, speed up their steps into China to grasp the emerging high-definition market in China.

BestBuy, the biggest home appliances retailer in North America, will reportedly introduce Blue-ray players to China during the first half of 2007.

Zhang Baoquan, chairman of Antaeus Group and general-secretary of China's EVD industry alliance, told that Blue-ray HD-DVD players and EVD players would coexist in China for a long time.

Blue-ray players are sold at USD 500-600 in China and the related discs are sold at CNY 150-400, even though their prices have been reduced several times since 2006. The price of DVD players drops to USD 299-399 in three years and it will cost Blue-ray players at lest three years to press down their price at that level, told StanGlasgow, president of Sony recently.

No matter how Blue-ray players do to take a certain market share in China, the market will play the essential role in its ups and downs.

With all the talk about HD DVD players coming out of China, I thought this was a neat article about Blu-ray players coming into China.

What's going to be even more neat is to see how the Chinese react and respond to Blu-Ray.

Does anyone have any insight as to how the Chinese might react to Blu-ray? I really don't have any knowledge about their culture and such but I'm sure some one here can speculate. What about the PS3 in China? Has it launched? How is it doing?

EVD went bust before and it will go bust again. I believe that they will support the better the two technologies(Blu-ray)

I would have never guessed that there was BB in china to begin with and dont even think they have ps3 there or if they ever will. I thought that china was kind of a closed off place for the most part to the foreign world, but i would like to know

They'll support the one that offers their companies the most opportunities to make revenue.

HD DVD is stuck in A/V players and media PCs for maybe one market (NA) with a slight outside chance of two (Europe).

BD has the world market for A/V and media PC, plus recorders, general PC burning, and write-once jukeboxes (lawyers, accountants, medical records).

There is a Best Buy in Shanghai, China. If I recally correctly, it recently opened, or is opening very, very soon.
