Imaginary Friends (Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski Fantasy Comedy)

Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski are teaming up for Imaginary Friends, a fantastical comedy that is in the process of being picked up by Paramount.

The studio came out on top of a heavy bidding war for the project, beating out Lionsgate and Sony among others, and is in the thick of negotiations. Financial terms were not disclosed.

If a deal is made, Krasinski will write, direct, produce and star. Reynolds would co-star alongside Krasinski in the Dr. Dolittle-like tale of a man who can see and talk to people’s imaginary friends, befriending those that have been forgotten or discarded. However, some imaginary friends, lacking love and friendship, turn to the dark side and it’s up to Reynolds’ character to save the world from those that become evil.

The package hit the desks of studios early last week, immediately sparking interest due to the names involved and the high concept nature of the story.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw Have Joined

The prolific multi-hyphenate Phoebe Waller-Bridge and actress Fiona Shaw have closed deals to join the ensemble cast of John Krasinski‘s upcoming untitled fantasy comedy for Paramount.

Krasinski is writing and directing the high-profile title, in addition to starring opposite Ryan Reynolds, as previously announced. The pic is set to open on Nov. 17, 2023, the beginning of the lucrative Thanksgiving corridor, and will begin shooting in summer 2022.

Plot details are being kept under tight wraps, but the story is based on an original idea of Krasinski’s about a child’s journey to rediscover their imagination.

IF wasn't showing up in the search but Imaginary Friends did. They showed a trailer today of IF before Dune 2. Definitely a kids animated live-action film, reminds me of Monsters Inc. if it were live-action.

I'll pass on it after seeing the trailers, but I wonder how this will do with audiences?

IF hits theaters on May 17, 2024. Ryan Reynolds is 47 already.
