Bloody after the 1 hr mark. Movie definitely can't be watched more than twice due to wafer thin plot and storyline.

It's a musical, musicals aren't supposed to be deep as a rule. The point is to provide a structure around the songs

It is bloody. He slits their throat and thick red blood sprays out. But it's rated MA (R in america), so what were you expecting...?

I disagree. For one, if you really analyze this film, you can see how much like a Shakespearean play it really is. It contains allot of the same elements. It holds strong as a tragedy, Tragic Irony, and is full of revenge, repentance, trickery, etc.
There is a lot that can be discussed and analyzed about this movie.

For example, who would be villain of this story be?

The judge, who
[Show spoiler]stole his wife, drove her mad, and raised his daughter, now trying to marry her
?

Sweeney, who
[Show spoiler]was unrightfully condemned only to later return as a broken and vengeful man, bent on revenge and obsessed with getting as much of his old life back, only to kill his own wife without recognizing her
?

Mrs Lovett, who
[Show spoiler]hide the truth from Sweeney about his wife, using him like a tool for her own purposes, to make her shop a success and find a potential husband/family, and leading him into his vengeful state knowing full well his intentions and even conceiving of the plan to use his victims in the pies herself, only to have her lies fly back at her as the monster she created in Sweeney ends her life in the very oven she uses to make her pies
?

There sure is a lot to look at in this.

And what was in the movie was dumbed down by screenwriter John Logan (mostly Logan's recognizable fault, since Tim's heart wasn't in it enough to ruin)--

In the original stage musical, the "revenge" tragedy is more ironic:
Sweeney
[Show spoiler]dispatches the judge
, Mrs. Lovette's
[Show spoiler]fate backfires on her
, and even Joanna
[Show spoiler]almost ends up as Sweeney's unwitting victim
--
But the movie goes for the cheap Logan-style Little Movie Glossary default of having Toby
[Show spoiler]"heroically" protect/avenge Mrs. Lovett by dispatching Sweeney
whereas the stage musical ended with the Irony of Toby
[Show spoiler]going mad from the trauma of being locked in the cellar, and Sweeney ending up as the "accidental" casualty of his own creation
.

(And they cut out the narration songs to point out the whole Sondheim "social messaage" about Industrial-era Victorianism!
Of course,
[Show spoiler] no spoiler here, just wanted to see who'd look.

Are you asking about the tattoo or the opinion of the movie? Because I agree--not about the tattoo thing--it was a fantastic movie and I think the only things it lacked were a couple of songs that were cut due to the incongruous mood, lack of a chorus line, etc.

Ummm... what did you expect from "THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET"???????

Just imagine seeing that done in a LIVE THEATRICAL PRODUCTION!!! By the end of the second act all of the choreography would have to be coordinated slipping and sliding instead of dancing!

Dancing? In a SONDHEIM musical??

(But, since you asked...Why imagine the stage musical?
And the ending wasn't as lame in the stage version, and they didn't drop the "Ballad" narration-chorus like the movie did.)

Ok. I guess "dancing" was too strong a term. I figured that the average joe that doesn't follow musical theatre would understand "dancing" more than had I said "rythmical movement." Had I used that terminology instead, they would have thought that I was making some crude sexual remark.

However, there is plenty of dancing in some of his better known works: 'West Side Story', 'Company', and 'Into The Woods' all had dancing in the productions that I saw.

I think Sweeney Todd is just as bloody as Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. While I liked Sweeney Todd for the story and singing, I really didn't like how the movie ended.

And I won't reveal the ending for anyone who hasn't seen it! Believe me, I'm not that crazy!
