Default Why choose compressed audio?

On many BDs I own, you are able to choose if you want to hear uncompressed audio.

My question.... Why would you ever choose not to hear uncompressed audio? What is the point of even having the other option?

I've also noticed that the default audio setting is the compressed audio. If I want to hear uncompressed, I have to go to the menu and select it. Why is this? Is my HDTV not meant for uncompressed audio or something?

(Note: I don't have surround sound or anything. I use the TV speakers only)

i think its more for the folks using a 5.1 system without a player or receiver that decodes the HD audio formats

There should be a feature on all Blu Ray players which search for the best audio track availible.

No, no, cuz this all depends on your equipment, unless you have your player already decoding and sending it straight via analog outs to your speakers.

Most people don't have the setups to use high-definition audio just yet, so by keeping it on the basic setting, it is, like C-hedz said, "universal compatibility." Sound through your TV speakers - well, correct me if I'm wrong, I've never heard a comparison personally - must be very indistinct from basic DD/DTS to TrueHD, HD-MA, or PCM. But I could be wrong.

Besides, are we really that lazy as to we don't want to press the "Audio" button once on our remotes to shift it to the HD sound?

Wait - lol - not all remotes have the Audio changing button? I could swear my old DMP-BD10AK had it - so did my BD30 - and so does my PS3 remote.

Which ones don't have a button to change the Audio track without going into the pop-up menu?!

Heck even my old DVD Philips HTiB had an Audio button.
