Angry Help PS3 Pain Issue

Got my 60 gig PS3 July of 2007. Been working great no problems at all Until I get this message when I turn it on. "A HDMI Cable has been detected do you want audio and video sent through HDMI" Or something close to that. Now, I have a my PS3 hooked up to HDMI for video and I have a digital coax cable for audio. When I click the button everything gets screwed up. I have to reset audio/video settings and PS3 reverts to 480P and I have to go in and reset everything. This happens in a random fashion. Has anybody else dealt with this issue ??? Thanks in advance !

No, not really but I know that if you hold the power button too long, it resets your video connections...

maybe :
- your HDMI cable is defective
- your PS3 HDMI plug is defective
either way try with another HDMI cable

Good call. However, when I rest everything works fine for months and months then bam out of nowhere that damn screen pops up.

I used to get this same issue after my 5yr old twins got done playing Lego Star Wars, I believe it is caused when you play a DVD or PS2 game and turn off the PS3 without exiting the game to the xmb menu before turning off the PS3. I think this is an issue with the 60gb model since it uses the emotion engine for PS2 games, I have only heard this issue from people who own the 60gb model on this forum. What was the PS3 playing prior to being turned off by your 4yr old?

I have never had this problem.
This is what I recommend you do, do not use the power button on the front of the PS3 to turn on and off the system. Use the remote/controllers. If you hit the PS button, it will turn on the system if it was off. Use the menu to turn off the system as well.
That is what I do and I never had this problem. I don't think using the PS button on the controllers/remote and holding it down will reset the video, I think it has to be the button on the front of the PS3.

I showed the twins how to exit out of a game and turn off the PS3 properly and I have not had the issue arise since. Now if I can get them to put the games back in the cases properly everything will be good

I can't see how touching the button on the front of the PS3 is bad, I do it all the time.

I'm sure Sony wouldn't have put a power button if it was bad to use.

Don't have the latest update did not update 2.40 because I'm not online and heard of all the issues with the 2.40. If this continues to be a problem I will upgrade to the 2.41 but I think its those damn kids that are behind this outrage
