Default Was TDK a masterpiece???

SpOiLeRs BeLoW!!! i WaRnED YoU!!! If YoU HaVnT SeEn ThIs MoViE, yOu PrObAbLy FaIl and DeSeRve It! HaHaHaHa!

After seeing it a second time I have to beg to differ. It was really, really good, but it was not a masterpiece.

My first issue with the movie is the villans. Either give Scarecrow a bigger part or don't put him in the movie. Okay, we get it, Scarecrow and joker are two different breeds of criminals. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. They totally diminished how evil Scarecrow is by having him doing small time jobs like we saw at the beginning of the movie. What Scarecrow tried to pull off in BB was a lot more destructive than what the Joker was doing. Don't try to glorify The Joker by tearing down how bad the Scarecrow is. I hope to see Cillian Murphy in the next one as his character is chilling.

Second, bad villian choice was the amount of time we saw of Two Face before he gets killed off. Its cool if you don't want to make Harvey Dent have the two faces/split personalities til the very end of the movie, but keep him alive if you are going to give Two Face that little screen time, so we can enjoy him in the next movie. Aaron Eckhart did a wonderful job as Harvey Dent and this isn't his fault, but the coin flipping thing was excessive. He'd just be like, "should I drink this, I dunno, lets leave it to my chance coin," and Rachel would be like, "Awww...Harvey you and your chance". Lame. Don't get me wrong Harvey Dent's character was developed really well, and Eckhart was awesome, just not masterful.

The Joker was a legendary performance by Heath Ledger, he truly was awesome and deserves the very least a nomination for best actor. Best performance I have seen since Lewis' Daniel Plainview last year. Only criticism was the hospital scene was a little over the top.

A few other things too, nobody in their right mind would have gone down in that tunnel while transferring a prisoner of such importance. I mean doesn't it seem kind of obvious when their is a burning 18 wheeler funneling you into a tunnel or lower street somebody is waiting for you down there or above you. Yeah, it was awesome in the movies, but it lacks that sheer brilliance that makes a masterpiece.

The people on the boat were absolute wussies. Your telling me nobody on either one of those boats would have blown up the other people in real life???? One of those boats would have been up in flames in two seconds.

There were a few more, I can't think of right now and while The Dark Knight was awesome and I loved it, there were just some things that don't put it in the same league as some other crime dramas like Heat, Goodfellas, hell even The Departed.

Sorry, for the 417th Dark Knight thread.

All the threads about TDK have ruined what little desire I had to see the movie. Plus I don't like the whole aspect shifting concept.

I can't wait for a movie to come out soon to blow TDK out of the water.

Wow,

ummm...

Batman has reduced the criminals of Gotham to small time crime, until the Joker comes.

Harvey Dent/Two-Face flips a coin because chance is the only uncorrupted factor in life (No Country for Old Men did this to BTW).

The Hospital showed just how crazy yet in control the Joker was. Plus it added a little humor to the film.

They expected there to be issues transfering Dent. They were using Dent as bait for the Joker. Their plan worked.

The idea of the boat goes back to Nash's equilibrium "The Prisoner Dilemma". The boats showed how even in their darkness moments, the people of Gotham are good and deserve a hero to protect them.

Not a crime drama, anybody who says it is thinks that the movie is the best of all time, check IMDB. THere are too many people like that. This is the best superhero movie, ever. It isn't a crime drama though.

The Dark Knight will be held as a very important movie, it is a masterpiece. It is a genre masterpiece though. This is the best film that the "Superhero" genre has given us.

First of all, "The Departed" is a cheap ripoff of a wayyyy better movie called "Mou gaan dou", secondly it's called a "movie" not "E! true hollywood story: Batman" Take the movie as it was made by Nolan and enjoy it or don't, all of your little gripes are just that...little. Untill you are Elroy, Jerry, or Mike and own your own video store and make your own movies, this is the way Nolan wanted it. And by the way we don't actually know if Two-face is dead, all we see is him on the ground, then a funeral for Harvey, which is probably because the real Harvey IS dead, now born is Two-Face. Second, through the entire movie the joker is trying to show how everyone is basically evil and all they need is a little push to the other side, but the boat scene really shows that not even the boat of criminals is low enough to kill a boat load of people. That's why the joker looked confused when he said, "And here we go..." then nothing happened, he figures that all we need is that little nudge to make us evil, but they showed that's not how it works. The underground tunnel choice was purely made for the crazy action that they wanted to use, sure no one would use it for prison transfer, but again it's just a movie. And lastly the scarecrow...the last we saw of him in BB was when he was on the horse and got tazed, so Nolan probably wanted to connect the two movies, and wrap the character up, sure he could have done it with dialogue but actually showing how desperate the scarecrow is was even better.

[Show spoiler]While they were using Dent to catch the Joker, the Joker knew they were using Dent and allowed himself to be caught so that he could complete his plan. The joker knew what was going on the whole time. I intended to get caught so we could tell them where harvey and rachel were and then escape with Lao as his captive.

It was brilliant!

Yes it was.

I was just explaining it from the Police's point of view though. I thought that the way Nolan and Goyer wrote the Joker was great. He was like Danny Ocean, with bigger balls.

Are people really having a tough time figuring out the "nuances" and themes of this movie? I think it's definitely the best superhero, comic book, action movie i've ever seen, but i don't usually like those types of movies anyways so i'm definitely no expert. Overall, i think it's a great movie and i'll definitely buy it on bluray, but masterpiece might be a bit much in my opinion. I don't think it ever transcends the entertainment barrier and goes into high art territory, but Heath Ledger brought it pretty close.

really? it's not that stupid. what's more stupid is the comment made about how stupid it was. i can see where hype can turn someone off. when everywhere you turn all you hear and see is the dark knight. it was like that for star wars episode 1 and really got a little annoying after a while. to some it could turn them off from seeing the movie. trying putting yourself in other's shoes.

I don't care what success it has, or what has more..... . I don't wish "ill-will" for it, and I'm glad it made a ton of money..... I plan on seeing it, but I have to agree, the fact that this movie is being pushed so much here.... with people saying "Best movie of all time" things like that are so ridiculous it makes me not want to see it, but like I said, I'll be getting it when it becomes available for rental.

Also... Opening box office records etc... DOES NOT equal best movie of all time.

I wouldn't call Batman a superhero, since he doesn't have super powers. But i would say it's one of the films based on a comic book i've seen.

and please don't take this thread as bashing TDK because I think we witnissed a revolution in Comic Book movies to come with TDK, the movie was awesome and I loved it, there are just some very minor things in it, that I think keep it from being a masterpiece that I see so many people claiming it is.

Lots of hype regarding the movie, and most of it is deserved, but I think we might be elevating this films greatness into a category of the greatest films ever made, which after seeing it a 2nd time it kind of came down from.

If anything this movie will be remembered forever for revolutionizing the Comic Book genre (if it is a genre), but not for being up there with the greatest crime dramas ever.

How very true, Spiderman 3 anyone? Not even the best of the Spiderman Movies, much less a classic. Titanic, highest grossing movie of all time, probably the worst mistake ever to win the Oscar for best picture.

That being said, The Dark Knight really is a great movie. The hype is getting to be a bit much, but it's one hell of a ride.

I would call it a superhero movie just because The character is a hero that has a lot of responsibility and is facing an opponent equal to their own capabilities. It is hard to call Batman a superhero, but with the same criteria, neither is Ironman.

The best comic book movies (Dark Knight, Spiderman (1&2), Ironman) they focus on the person inside the suit, the person behind the hero. It is easier to feel for the hero when you care about the person.

Grosses are inflated because of ticket prices, they mean little.

Also, Titanic was up against LA Confidential and Good Will Hunting. Titanic reminds me of "studio pictures" that used huge sets, huge budgets, huge scope, but focused on a small portion of the setting. I do not like Titanic that much, but I can see why it is so beloved.
