Default Die Hard I II III BDs good enough?

I want to buy Live Free or Die Hard on Blu-Ray, and I was wondering what you guys think of the first three Die Hard films on Blu-Ray.
Are the picture and sound good enough to justify spending a few extra bucks on Die Hard I, II and III on Blu-Ray?

Jodi

If you are talking PQ difference between dvd and blu-ray, Oh hell yes there is a huge difference. I have not seen even a bad transfer not look better than the dvd. I just watched the die hard movies a couple of weeks ago. They all look very good.

That's a big "Hell, yeah" right there, Jodi! Especially the Blu-ray of Die Hard 1 and 2. I recently traded in my Live Free or Die Hard Blu-ray and just went out and got the collection with all 4 films! But if I had a choice between Die Hard 1, 2, and 3, I'd have to say that the Blu-ray version of Die Hard 2 is the best one next to the 4th film.

Die Hard With a Vengeance is regarded as one of the worst quality discs on DVD due to some VERY heavy edge enhancement. The Blu-ray is probably one of the better catalog discs I've seen, and looks like a totally different film. The other two don't offer as dramatic of an improvement because the DVD wasn't absolute garbage, but they're still a huge upgrade.

I have the BD box set. DH I is a bit underwhelming, probably because it's a typical 80's action movie that simply was shot like that. There are still many great scenes, but sometimes it's a bit mushy.

I have watched DH II once. It's ok, but as i don't like the film itself i've just watched it once and didn't pay too much attention to the technical side of it.

DH III has good grain and quite a lot of details in many scenes.

So overall: highly recommended. ;-)

That's an affirmative from me. I have all four on blu and the PQ and SQ is awesome on all of them. If you like the movies you certainly must buy them.

Default They are great

Over here (in Europe) only Part 1 and 2 were release. They were great. They were the best ones of the franchise. Especially Part 2 which is my favorite. (Even though a lot of people don't share that opinion)..
The PQ is pretty good and the lossless sound is excellent.

With "Live free or Die Hard" I would wait until they release the unrated Version. Why would you wanna buy a Die Hard Movie where Bruce can't use the f-word or where there is virtually no blood. Just get the first 2. Or if you must get the 3rd one too. But with Nr. 4 I would wait until they release the real version.

What are you talking about? Die Hard 2 was by far the best one of them all.

Just talking about Die Hard 2 made me wanna see it again. Back when I watched 1 & 2 on BD I still had a tube TV. This is the first time I am gonna see Part 2 on BD.

I can give you a detailed account on the PQ after I finished watching the awesome part two. As I previously said, the Lossless sound is excellent

Ok I watched the first 15 minutes of Part 2.

I have to say that the PQ is really excellent. Especially considering the age of the original print. It's been cleaned up very nicely.

So definitely buy it !!

The first three are the only ones worth owning in my opinion... 1 and 3 are great, 2 isn't great, but it's enjoyable..... the new one was painful to watch in my opinion.

And you should be aware, if you purchase Die Hard 2 that there are still some unresolved problems with the DTS-HD MA soundtrack. Fox is aware of the problem but they clearly have poor quality control. I've been waiting over 6 months for them to send me a disk which has DTS-HD MA audio (no audio at all if you make this audio selection with an appropriately equiped receiver). They did send me a new disk a few weeks ago but it had the same audio problems as the first. You can check this out here http://www.foxbd.com/choose/new and elsewhere on this forum as well as the avs forum.

I thought so about IV as well at first. Bought it (to test BD+ on my htpc ) and thought "Yeah, well, another old franchise cashing in". Then i ended up watching it a lot of times and it started growing one me. Now i really like it. It's like the "buddy movie" DH III; only with "internet nerd guy" instead of Samuel.

I love I, III and IV, don't care for II.
