Default Sony KDS50A2000

I need some help. I bought my KDS50A2000 in Nov 2006. Today I noticed these tears in my screen. At first I thought my kids took a Sharpie to it but when I tried to wipe it off with a damp towel, I realized it was coming from inside the TV.
(I circled the tears)

I don't know what they are or how they got there. I do remember earlier today I was cleaning the screen earlier using a just a little damp towel as stated in the handbook to get rid of some heavy smudges and I don't know if traces of water or what got inside. I've done this many times in the past and this is the first it has ever occured. Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
