Default Onkyo 805 and listening to cd's in stereo mode

Hi all, the other day I was testing out my new Klipsch F-3's and for the life of me I couldn't get my onkyo 805 to sound right when playing cd's in regular stereo mode, I turned off my sub to just listen to the speakers and what they could do alone, I was very dissapointed I just couldn't get them to sound right! hardly any bass came out of the woofers,I mean when I watch blu-rays they sound awesome, could it be the EQ on my reciever? if so the damn EQ is so F@@@in complicated! I was always used to a seperate graphic EQ, you know the ones where you actually move the knobs up and down to your liking, I now this may sound dumb but I don't know what the different khz things mean without looking at the normal EQ setup, the numbers make no sense to me! Damn, I just want to jam out to rockin cd's! Can anyone help? Thanks

Did you try the various listening presets on your receiver? There are a couple specifically for Music.

Yeah, I just wanted to jam out to regular old fashioned Stereo mode, maybe its the way I have the speakers setup in the setup menu, if thats the case I really don't know what HZ to set them too or large or small.

Turn off Audyssey under the EQ setup . A lot of people here swear by it but I think it makes music sound horrible.

And FYI with the Onkyo 805 setting your speakers to "Full Band" is the equivalent of "Large" and setting the HZ to like 90-120 is like setting to "Small"

Try your fronts in the 40-60 range and see how you like them.

I would also adjust the "Tone" (bass & treble).

yeah, I tried adjusting the tone, I just don't understand what the khz and hz numbers mean on the manual EQ, if anyone has some sort of guide or cheat sheet to what each number for each speaker setting means I would greatly appreciate it!

There really isn't a cheat sheet and everyone has their ideal EQ settings. Depending on your speakers Fronts, Center, Surrounds,(sub also) and their range the EQ will help you tune your setup. I am not familiar with your speakers so I would have to look them up. You do not want to increase the levels too much to the point of distortion. Do what sounds best to you some people like a flat response others like to increase/decrease the lows, mids and/or highs.

Your room and what's in it has a big effect on the way a system sounds. I am sure if you do a general Internet search you may be able to find articles about calibrating and tuning. With the room + furnishings + system all play a part in how you may use your EQ. Really you may not like the EQ settings for two channel and surround to be the same. Also your speakers may have been designed for home theater rather than music but again I am not familiar with your speakers.

It will help you a lot to research as much as you can that way you will increase your knowledge base and use it to help tune your system. Ultimately you are trying to satisfy yourself so set the EQ to whatever sounds best to you. To me tweaking is fun and worth it.

thanks for the support, I don't understand the differences between hz and khz, the EQ on my AVR has all the settings in hz and khz and sorry for sounding ignorant I don't get it.

hz (Hertz) is a way of measuring bandwidth cycles per second. For example 63hz= 63 cycles per second and 7khz= 7000 cycles per second. 63hz is a low frequency and 7khz is a high frequency.

It may be a better idea and a lot less typing to do a search on let's say Wiki for better/proper understanding. Unless someone else is better at putting it into easy to understand common terms. I don't want to butcher it.
