Default Lawrence of Arabia

I picked up The Patriot and at the beginning of the disk there is a Sony promo where they show brief (very brief) scenes from upcoming Blu-rays. Funny thing is, that every "coming soon" movie is now on Blu-ray, except for Lawrence of Arabia. I really hope that they are taking their time on Lawrence so that the picture quality and sound will be second to none.

I heard they have been working on this release for a long time now for Blu... so it is coming I would guess if not by the end of this year would have to be release 1st quarter of 2009. I can't wait.

Hopefully WB will follow up with Doctor Zhivago and Ryan's Daughter... and SOny with Bridge over the River Kwai.

On early Sony BD titles the promo trailer shows images from Lawrence of Arabia, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and some other movies that I cannot remember right now. They are listed as "coming soon on Blu-ray".
1 year after I am still waiting for those movies on BD...

I heartily agree with you on that. For a movie that is 46 years old, the level of detail was amazing. This would be a day one purchase for me.

David Lean's Great Expectations is now available on a region-free BD in the UK. I strongly suggest that you add it up to your library while you are waiting for LA.

Ciao,

what do you expect, it was shot in ultra crisp 70mm, any and all 70mm should and will look great - Patton excepted (damn you Fox for DNR'ing it to death)

I recently saw LOA in 70mm, and if you are expecting insane amount of detail, you will be disappointed. It looks great, but its not sharp as a tack.

granted it wasn't shot in a desert, the 70mm print I saw of 'Hello Dolly!' was pseudo 3D - simply jawdropping. 'Playtime' also had that effect for it's 70mm engagement at the AFI Silver Theater.
