Default Does this ever happen to anyone else online?

I need to share this with other people. Last night I was playing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith online with random people in random matches. I join this person's match who instantly starts blurting obsceneties that go beyond mere trash talk. I let it pass for the time being.

The song begins and he keeps going making up his own words to "Dream On" where all of the lyrics are about "sucking balls", I suppose this is to throw me off. The match is face-off, best of 3. It's close but I win the first song. I lose the second song because by now he's starting to get to me. I won the third song for the win just barely at the end. Immediately after the match, he calls me the N-word. Mind you, I haven't even used my headset anywhere during the match.

Does this crap happen to anyone else? I'll openly admit that the N-word doesn't offend me itself, but what does offend me is that people go online to play and use it all they want. I've played Gears of War on Xbox live multiple times and have played with clans that talk like a bunch of skinheads. I post my story on here with the hopes that humanity is not dead in the realm of online gaming. I know deep down I shouldn't let this crap bother me, but what the hell is wrong with people?

Sorry for the huge post, I hate do leave them this big by the way.

It's all that happens to me, which is why I pretty much stay away from online games without the option to mute. It's a good feature when you're friends with those around you, but the Internet provides a layer of anonymity that allows everyone to turn into a klansmen the second they get killed or lose a match. Reminds me of every time I step into a public restroom stall.

Yeah happens all the time. Guaranteed first thing i do when i play online is mute everyone yapping.

Took a couple of goes on COD4 last week before i figured out how to do it and some prick from manchester was just continually yapping shit ALL the way through the match.

Very well said. It never ceases to blow my mind that people do that sort of thing. And who thinks to take a marker with them to write on the bathroom wall, or worse yet roller coaster rides? Morons like that almost completely kill the fun of online gaming.

There are days when I really miss not having voice chat in the PS3 version of Rock Band, but stories like this remind me that it's not all beer and skittles.

People are jerks on the internet because there's no one there to stop them. It's like the rules of civilization just don't apply there.

That said, I'll be enjoying the heck out of having voice chat in Rock Band 2 come this fall with the many friends I've developed over the past year. Randoms may cuss like sailors, but you can pick your friends.

I don't care about what people say.

What drives me bananas the most are people that don't say anything, but have their headset on with their TV blaring so you hear everything twice!!

To be fair, I've experienced this issue far more with XBL. What's annoying with PSN though is that games are too quiet and uncooperative sometimes. Sure when you play with friends it's different. But playing MGO and all I hear is music and gunfire? That's a game where headset talking would be nice.

Of course, you do get the occasional 12 year old brat that just sings and makes high pitched noises into his mic, but then again, my mute button works wonders.

Try playing a game like Halo though without wanting to drive to someones house and cutting out their tongue.

mute button is the only thing you can do really.

its absolutely ridiculous that this crap goes on. my parents were always cool with us playing violent videogames, but i know if they had come downstairs and heard some of the things that were said on XBL or PSN they would have made us turn the game off.

what really gets me is the a-clowns who don't just leave their ridiculous obscenties in the game, but after the game send you a voice recording or something telling you how ghey you are that you beat them and that you are nothing but an n-word who should go to kfc instead of playing games because you suck. and its like, dude, i wasn't even talking to you during the game, i wasn't antagonizing you, i muted your @$$, stfu man. plus, im white, so that just furthers the ignorance and stupidity of what your racist @$$ just said. this has only happened to me on xbl and i report it everytime, but it never seems like much gets done about it.

and i don't get whats up with all the racism online? i don't get offended by it and maybe its just me, but in real life i here more homophobic slurs like f-g and homo and ghey, but online its nothing but n-word, spic, chink, etc. i rarely ever hear anyboudy use the racial slurs in real life outside of a very joking context.

and what gets me even more (and this is more with xbl once again) is when you have somebody in a 1-1 game like madden who does nothing but spew crap out of his mouth for all 60 min. or just say something ridiculous like you f' your mom for 60 mins. straight and you don't want to quit beceuase it hurts your rep online and you mutter one hell or damn and they report you for profane language. its like what the f'is your problem kid???!?!?!?!

It does crack me up though sometimes when you mute some yapping pup, to think that they're sitting there somewhere (7th layer of hell i hope) gwa'nning to themselves with no-one listening mwahaha...then i kill them...being as i'm focussed on the game in hand, not on making some noisishness.

You have to be thicked skinned to play some games online for sure. Socom was always a game that had alot of idiots yapping but thanks to kicking the player it would usually last about 1 round and everyone would vote them. We need to remember that its not just the n-word getting thrown around by white kids but also some black kids throwing around sleeping with your mom or something like that. Its a sick world we live in but if you just laugh at them and dont get to talking back with them they usually let it go. Its when you talk back to them they know they are getting under your skin so just roll with it. "Can't we just all get along" Rodney King

seriously what they need to do is have 10 mods for every game out there that go randomly into games and perma-ban anybody who just repeatidly heckles and harrasses people.

im not saying to ban people for dropping the f-bomb or even the ocansional n-word. im saying that people who for the entire game just repeatidly say, "i f'd your sister, i f'd your sister, i f'd your sister" they should get thrown of that game forever and then sony/ms could also do some program where the game companies could write up certain users and sony/ms could take further action like banning the user from all PSN/XBL game for a certain period of time depending on the degree of what he said and if he is a prior offender.

what they need is like a report user so you can report them and then their whole PS3 or Xbox account gets banned from ever being used again

+1 but they need to block the entire system (like ms does with systems they catch that are modded), so that the user cannot simply create another profile.

make them go out and buy a new xbox/ps3 and buy a new subscription for xbl if they want to play again.

and all go on the record of saying that the ps3 and 360 will never capture the younger, older or family audience until they fix this issue.

I understand the fact of 'reporting' people.

A better way for the implementation of this system would be that when you report something, the converstation is recorded and then sent to a moderator to later to be reviewed. Just so people are reporting everyone that are 'too good' to be kicked off and that not everything is moderated and taking up too much bandwidth.

I'm betting the reason M$ doesn't do much about the yip yapping problem is because its part of were they're making most of there money. As for why Sony doesn't do anything about the yip yapping on PSN, i can't really think of anything.

If XBL/PSN servers were looked after better, on the scale of PC hosted servers for PC games and had Server Admins / Moderators you would have less people yip yapping garbage, because they would be getting kicked / banned within minutes of trying to talk garbage.

The only way i can really think of that being possible is by game developers releasing a Dedicated Server for PC to host XBL/PSN games. But i cannot see this happening.

i made the report user as a suggestion on something they could use because like what about the little kids who play it? its like you could turn Guitar Hero into a Mature rated game or even a Adults only game just by saying stuff like that and then the kids listen to it and kids usually repeat anything they hear but i know its usually the little bit older kids who say that kind of stuff like ages 14-16 or something like that but its just wrong to let that go unpunished
