If you want the best value player (that's also a game console), it's the PS3. If you want the best player, it's the Denon DVD-3800BD. It might cost a lot but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for".

I don't think either of these answers are correct until we find out what your needs are. Do you have an existing receiver? What model? Does it have analog inputs or HDMI? Do you like to play video games or stream content from another PC on your network? Is BD-Live important to you? What's your budget?

As you can see there are a lot of factors that go in to what's the best for you. For me, the PS3 was a natural fit- I can stream video and music from my upstairs pc, play video games, get lossless audio via HDMI, easy-to-grab firmware updates and the latest profile.

Really? Doesn't appear that way to me. People are always going to recommend what they're familiar with, and for a lot of users on this forum that's the PS3. However, there's still some fine discussion going on.

Perhaps on this one you should follow your avatar's advice.

Better in what way? Better PQ/AQ? Well since Blu is a digital format the player doesn't affect the quality of the Audio/Video like old Analog fomats did (a $2000 Laserdisc player could dish out discs at full resolution where a $200 machine could only go 3 quarters of that with alot of grain).

But In price I look at the PS3, because you get more bang for your buck. Not only do you get blu-ray movies, you get to play new games and your PS2 games as well in upscaled HD (unless you have a 40 gb POS)

You are a little off on that one. It is well known that a Realta or even a Reon chip will give you a much better picture than most of what's on the market (even the PS3).

I'm not sure about "well known". They're definitely good processing chips though. Plus there's the price to performance ratio to take into consideration.

However I will agree with you that just because the players are digital... they're not going to all be alike in how they display the image.

Except that they do: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...36&postcount=1

kjack discusses why that's the case here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=294

The PS3 is, indeed, a terrific value. Having said this, everyone's cost/benefit decision as regards desired PQ/AQ/Features will be different.
