Default Wild China - Received Early

Well, I got Wild China from Warner today, a full 8 days before release (woo right?). Here's the kicker though...it was open.

I received The Lost Boys, Dark City, Ganges, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Next today in the same shipment, but Wild China wasn't wrapped or anything, seems to been in good shape, no damage, discs are there, no smudges or scrapes. I just found it strange that I would receive an open movie...especially an open movie that's supposed to come out in another week.

I didn't have problems with Warner Shipments forever, but my last two have been hell unfortunately.

Well...I'm going to watch Wild China tonight

I'll be watching most of it tonight, so I'll let everyone know how the PQ is afterwards.

(Glad to see some people interested, Planet Earth hooked me and Galapagos continued that, so I have high hopes for Wild China and Ganges).

We watched the first ep of Ganges last night. I thought it was pretty good in terms of PQ, content and narration. The only downside is that there is more coverage of humans in Ganges whereas in PE there was none really.

Hang on a second......
do all 4 parts of the boxset have narration by David Attenborough?
Didn't Sigourney Weaver do the American Planet Earth?

Yes, Sigourney Weaver did the US broadcast of PE but David Attenborough was the narration on the Blu-ray sold here. I think it would have been best to have both narration tracks on the discs, IMO.

This one is narrated by someone else...I didn't check who. The PQ is up there, not quite on par with Planet Earth, but it's pretty good, not great. I've only watched the first episode so far, and they DO talk about people a lot, not just nature and animals...which in some ways is disappointing. However, it keeps your interest. AQ is better than Galapagos (although that's not hard to do).

UPDATE: After watching a few more, PQ still on the lower end...there are some nice vivid shots, but nothing near Planet Earth

also some updates to the specs from listed here on the maine page...the 2 discs are 1x25bd and 1x50bd and recorded at 1080i

i bought from wb site at less then $20 so well worth the purchase for subject pretty unknown to me...not prefect but overall i give pq 4

There were two versions of planet earth released in the US, the original with David Attenborough's commentary and then the version shown on National Geographic in the states. The episodes shown on National Geographic were slighly shorter in length than the BBC version to accomodate advertising.

Higdefdigest have reviews of both

US version

That's ringing a bell now.
If you bought from National Geographic you got Sigourney Weaver's narration, and from anywhere else you got David Attenborough.
Is that right??

Thank you.
I didn't see them all on TV, I can't remember if it was Attenborough who narrated it over here.

Anyone notice that this uses AVC?

Warner does all the BBC ones here, right? All the previous ones have been VC-1, at least.
