Smile Sony Unveils Ultimate Weapon Gaming headsets with unique Sony surround technology

Sony Unveils Ultimate Weapon Gaming headsets with unique Sony surround technology

• DR-GA500 model features 7.1ch digital surround sound perfect for first person shooters (FPS)
• DR-GA500 and DR-GA200 have 40mm drive units for premium gaming sound quality
• Both showcase unique ‘triple enfolding’ design for unrivalled comfort over long periods of wear

Both models are expected to be available this month. Suggested retail pricing is $199 for the DR-GA500 and $79 for the DR-GA200.

Quote:
Sony is launching two very special headsets into the gaming sector. Each has been designed in response to extensive user research that shows what different gamers want from the ideal headset.

The DR-GA500 combines a Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoder with unique Sony Virtual Phones™ Technology (VPT) to create convincing 7.1ch 3D surround effects. The signal processing hardware is contained in a compact external unit.

The result is a soundscape rich in precision spatial detail that pinpoints everything from a stealthy footstep to the position of an exploding grenade. This audio environment is perfect for first person shooter (FPS) games where what you can hear is often as important as what you can see.

DR-GA500 brings out the highest gaming performance with its superb sound quality. It is something you can’t forget, if you really want to win the game.

And as every gamer knows, any advantage you can gain can make the difference between winning and losing.

Both the DR-GA500 and GA200 headsets will also appeal to an audience of strategy and online multiplayer games where long stretches of gameplay are the norm. They feature 40mm drive units for outstanding sound quality with resonant, living bass and crisp high frequencies, plus the Sony ‘triple enfolding’ design for the last word in comfortable wear.

Both headsets share exceptional visual appeal thanks to a striking and individualistic design that sets them apart from the competition. The design features durable materials and is as practical as it is eye-catching, but the real secret is the comfort factor.

The Sony triple enfolding design has its origins in user research underlining the importance of ventilation and avoiding pressure on the ear. It means long sessions of wear without the growing distraction of discomfort.

Both models incorporate a high quality, compact boom microphone to complete the ideal feature set for the most demanding of gamers.

Medal Of Honor Promotion
Hardware this good deserves to be put to the ultimate test. From October 15, both the DR-GA500 and DR-GA200 will come with a free copy of the keenly anticipated new Medal Of Honor™ single player game. Explore the background to this state-of-the-art military simulation at: http://www.medalofhonor.com/ and look out for the promotional sticker on the pack.

Medal of Honour comes free with the headset in October.

So, if I'm reading that right, the lower model comes with the free game too? If you're going to buy it anyway, that essentially makes the headphones $20. Hmm..

Will be picking up one of these on release day. Not sure which yet. Gotta have headphones for the late night gaming.

Anyone else notice that it comes with "keenly anticipated new Medal Of Honor™ single player game", does that mean no multiplayer in the free version?

Yeah, I was curious about that too. I hope it's just poor wording. Otherwise, they'll lose a lot of their sales.

The pair of headphones I have now are some cheaper ones that don't have game audio in them. I assume both models of these do? That's enough to entice me, combined with a free copy of MoH (that I wasn't originally going to get).

Is the offer just starting 10/15 (3 days after MoH actually comes out)? When I first read it I thought it would be pre-orders but I guess I'm wrong.

will this be usable using standard headphone jacks for my iPhone or something or just with the Amp? either way i'll buy the headset and sell the game, if the headphones were cheaper, not into medal of honor.

If it has a microphone I assume it connects directly to the PS3. But if it's doing surround audio that suggest connecting to an amp. Can't see it connecting to both so interesting to see what it does.

It will connect just like the tritton headphones, optical audio out the PS3 into the "amp" then amp plugs into the PS3 USB port, and the actual headsets will then plug into the "amp"

When do these come out? It say both are expected this month, that to me says August with just a few days left in this month.

Why not? Tritton headphones work fine on PS3. I would think that Sony would at least be able to get their own products to work smoothly together.

Exactly what are you basing this statement on? Their officially licensed headphones. And I'm a sucker and will absolutely buy these overpriced headphones. They look so freakin' cool.

Yeah, because Sony is going to make gaming headphones for the other console?

I think is for PC gaming only in surround mode. In regular mode it would just work like a regular wired headset I guess...

The reason I think this is true is because the PR comes from Sony and not SCE. Game stuff normally comes from SCE.

I can't find it anywhere I guess they'll start putting it up for sale around MOH's release.
