720p or 1080p 32

im thinking of buying a either a 32" 720p Plasma or a 32" 1080p Plasma. Would I notice a difference on the 32" or are they the same looking.

Quite simply: no.

Even if you sat 6" away from the TV and could notice the difference - it surely wouldn't be worth the several hundred dollar price increase.

I see the difference using a 24" 1920x1200 computer monitor, why not on a 32" screen. Why do have to sit so far back when viewing a TV? At the correct distance, you will be well rewarded with 1080p.

Why a 32" plasma and who makes 'em? Get at least a 42" Pany. The price increase is not that much, and you will be happier in the long run with a bigger set, IMHO. If you are still set on a 32", then review the chart on this thread. Unless you plan to sit <5' from the screen, you probably will not notice a difference due to resolution alone.

Who's going to watch a 32" screen from 1-3 feet away? We sit closer to computers because we are looking for smaller things. It's pretty hard to read a letter on a 24" monitor across the room on a couch.

What people don't seem to understand is a lot of times what's making an image look really good isn't the resolution, but other qualities such as color. If you want an honest answer to the question go look at these two HDTVs and pick the one that looks the best to you. For the record i do doubt that 1080p alone will make a big difference, if any.

More importantly, if you're looking at a 32" plasma, it's likely a POS.
Regarding 1080p, if you're more than 6ft away you're not likely to get any benefit from a 1080p over a 720p.

How about good color and 1080p. If there is no advantage of 1080p over 720p, then why is there talk among the pros in moving up to 4K and 8K projection if 720p is all we really ever need?

I agree. On my last HDTV purchase, I upgraded quality (got a Pioneer plasma)and downgraded on resolution (768p) for the same price as a decent 1080p set and am very pleased. Sure, I would like 1080p, but if I can save a significant amount of money and get the same result, why not? Btw, I sit 12' feet away and it is a 50" TV.

To the OP, I really don't think you will notice any benefits of 1080p on a 32" set...unless you have your face preddes up against the screen.

I can't think of any 32" plasma that I'd want to buy though. None of the good plasma makers make one that size, or a 32" 720p plasma for that matter.

Better off with the $899 32" 1080p Aquos - 32D64U - something like that.

For not much more you could get a 42" 1080p Panasonic though - that would be the best choice.

Also, I think Costco is selling 42" 720p Panny plasmas for $800. I think they are the same as the PZ80u models. Great deal for the price, imo.

Inless cost is an issue, why would anyone want the old technology over the new?
