Default Speaker positioning in WIDE shallow room

The only room in my house where it was really feasible to set up my home theater also happens to be the most poorly shaped room

It's about 30' wide and only about 14' deep. The left third of the room is my home office/PC area and the other 2/3 is my viewing/listening area.

I have a Coaster Promenade sectional on order that will fit the seating area perfectly. Right now I have my front towers positioned where they would, distance wise, be sitting on the outside edges of my sitting area and they are toed in towards my sitting area.

Do you think this is the optimal placement for this shape room? Or would it be better to move the towers closer to the tv and point them straight towards the viewing area? I'd have to actually move several things to even try a different position, so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has experience in a similarly shaped room before I went through all the effort of rearranging.

Listen to some music and see where you get the best imaging and soundstage. Listen to see how the music extends beyond the speakers and see if you can postition the music in space. Solo voices should come directly between the speakers centered - When I listen to choral music - I can actually see how the director has the choir stacked and positioned. This is what you are listening for (besides a host of other things) experiment, but having your left and right too close together is a crime. I belive they should be at least 7-8 feet apart (at least). Mine are currently 8ft apart.

Well currently they are 13.5' apart and toed in towards the listening area. I have the center channel exactly in the middle of them, placed dead center under the tv. My wife thought I was nuts when I had her in there helping me measure

This probably is the best placement for them, but since my recent speaker upgrade I have played with the positioning as best I can without totally rearranging the whole room, and have realized what a big difference speaker placement can make. When looking at the home theater pics of others, I often see their towers sitting just a couple of feet to the sides of their tv's and pointed straight forward, so I was curious if that was a more optimal placement. I'd actually have to take a shelf off the wall to even try that for myself. It sounds great the way it is, but you know how we obsess about how we can make it better.
