For picture I would have to say Pirates 3 and for audio it is definitely 3:10 to Yuma. Every time I watch that movie I am blown away by the audio. As far as Cloverfield goes, I love the PQ and AQ and the moving camera doesn't bother me one bit. I think that whoever said that there is a link between fps's and tolerating the camera work might be on to something. I play first person shooters and I don't have a problem with it, but my brother can't stand it and he doesn't play first person shooters, while my other brother who has played fps's since childhood also has no problem with it. Good theory, I never would have thought of that.

New user, new owner of Blu-Ray player. Bought Transformers, but haven't watched it yet. Quick question. I have 5.1 surround. To best enjoy the high quality audio of Transformers, et al, should I upgrade to 7.1?

It's getting harder to choose with more and more great looking/sounding titles being released. I guess I'll go with the following though:
PQ: Saawariya. A newer one that I thought looked great was The Forbidden Kingdom. Several scenes look amazing. AQ: Transformers. Basically just b/c it's one of the best I've heard recently. I usually list Live Free or Die Hard. Another catalog release that I thought sounded great was U-571. PQ and AQ: I, Robot Animated PQ/AQ: Cars. More recently, The Nightmare Before Christmas looked/sounded really good. |

My pick out of 40+ titles for best PQ goes to:
3:10 to Yuma - Absolutely stunning, jaw dropping PQ. The best movie for AQ isn't that easy. Since I have a 7.1 sound system and few titles with 7.1 audio tracks, I am splitting AQ between 5.1 tracks and 7.1 tracks. For 7.1 AQ: 3:10 to Yuma - The best 7.1 sound experience l've ever heard on BD! The gatlin gun/stagecoach scene is what 7.1 sound is all about. I feel like I am immersed in that shootout with bullets ricocheting all around me. All the other gunfights and shootouts were spectacular too. The dialogue even during the faintest whispering was distinct and clear. This movie is my 7.1 show piece. For 5.1 AQ: Independence Day - Stunning dialogue clarity, house shaking LFE during the mother ship flyby over the moon, all other spaceship scenes, during the destruction of LA, NY, and W D.C., and during the F-18 dogfight scenes. Note: Cloverfield LFE had quantity but not quality, and it was nothing less than torture for me to watch, no story, just pure eyesore. Overall in my collection, 3:10 to Yuma is my best movie, the best PQ, and the best AQ. ![]() |

Since all bases have been covered and most of mine match what has already been said, I'm going to throw Viva Las Vegas into the mix for my favorite PQ disc and I'm going to have to say........hmmmmmmm...lemme look.(takes a minute)...well....Cloverfield is probably THE best, but I'm going to say Wild Things for the opening credits sequence in PCM.
So...yeah Viva Las Vegas PQ Wild Things AQ |
