Default Help with choosing a panny

Hi all

I have read over these forum and still need help, I miss the time when all you needed to worry about is what size the tv there was and if it had teletext lol.

Im from the UK and there are 3 Panasonics I have been looking at (in price order from most expensive)-

TH-42PZ800B
TH-42PZ81B - has freesat
TH-42PZ85B

I have compared them on the panasonic.co.uk site but they all seem the same (Except from the freesat) I was set on getting the TH-42PZ800B but read the it doesnt have THX mode on the UK sets but is still about £250 more expensive so it must have some more features than the other 2 but what? price doesnt really matter but its bugging me that i cant figure it out myself lol.

Im hoping to get either one of these by the end of the month so can all you guru's help me out in deciding.

thanks alot

THX is just a certification given (and paid for) to meet MINIMUM quality set up by them....... All of the higher end models (you listed) will exceed their minimum requirements.

I wouldn't focus on THX

so what is the difference from the 800 to the 85? if the THX isnt in both, I did notice that the speakers were different on the comparison....

Get the 800 if you dont plan the calibration. The THX mode it has offers more accurate colors. If you plan a professional calibration, the 85u is fine. Both have identical black levels.

Well thats not entirely accurate Beta... the THX technicians tweak the video processor a bit on THX displays... and not just on the THX setting, but the video processor as a whole

I disagree also. A professional calibrator at AVS (who knows more about the tv than all of us) says the THX mode offers very good colors.

As I said before, if ou plan to have it calibrated, get the 85u. If not, get the 800u.

The 800u in THX mode actually has better color than the 850u.

800 over 85:

4 hdmi instead of 3

offers the 24p real cinema playback(that has shown flicker in reviews). the 85u can accept 24p, it just performs 3:2 pulldown just like a player not out putting 24p would do.

$300 price diff at the site I looked at, think Id just go 85u. Blacks and color will be similiar.

I have the 85u and I cant say enough about it. If the 800 doesnt have the THX mode then there is no reason to get it over th 85u. Just my opinion though.

thats what i was thinking as well, the speakers seem different so that might be why there is a bit of a price difference.

Im going to go back into the shop again and look at the both of them again and try make my mnd up lol
