There are now 2 Blu-Ray players on the market at $499 (the other being the 20 gig PS3). There goes the price argument... |

I agree, The Sony PS3 is much better quality and has a better picture and is the same price as the Samsung. I strongly believe that the Samsung BDP-1000 will be selling for $399 in about another month once the BDP-1200 is released. The BDP-1200 in theory should have a better picture then the PS3 since it has a 1080P/24 output.

I own both, and while I think they are both great, 1) I don't think the ps3 has a better picture, if they aren't a dead tie than the samsung probably has a slight edge in sharpness. 2) I don't understand how you can say one is "better" quality than the other. IMO they both offer unique features. Would I give up my analog outsputs for uncompressed 5.1 in favor of a bitrate meter on the ps3...probably not. They are both great units, but truth is the samsung is a little slower. Hower it has never glitched, froze or skipped on me once. And has In my setups proved to be the more referance & more dependable player of the two. Value is easily handed to the ps3 though. |

Even with the improved Samsung BDP-1000 firmware update many newsletters and magazines make the claim that the PS3 is still a little sharper when watching BLU-RAY movies.
Here is just one quote from Ultimate AV and the link “…the PS3 was entirely consistent in providing excellent performance that was just a bit sharper and more detailed than Samsung's BD-P1000 BD player.” "Fox's release of </I>X-Men: The Last Stand</I> is AVC encoded on a 25GB BD. On this disc I could see better fine detail in facial hair and skin texture (Wolverine sports a lot of both at all times!) on the PS3 than the updated Samgung BD-P1000, and the colors seemed to jump out just a little more." http://ultimateavmag.com/hddiscplayers/1206ps3blu/index2.html I do think the new Samsung BDP-1200 once reviewed will be better quality then the Sony PS3 in terms of picture quality. The picture quality on BLU-RAY players are so close that it sometimes can be one persons opinion over another. I love the picture quality on the Pioneer Elite which Sound and Vision and the Perfect Vision magazine claim this player is clearly by far the world’s best BLU-RAY player in terms of picture quality. many have said the firmware 1.1 has given the samsung improved PQ once more.
I got a 1080p set around the same time, so I can't say if it was the tv, the update or both but somethings definately much better than when i first got the bdp1000 months ago. Anyone saying their is any appreciable difference either has a microscope out, or a serious case of placebo. |

I have both the Sammy (w/firmware upgrade) and the PS3 and I can honestly say, in terms of PQ, I can't see any difference. Granted, I'm not a professional reviewer and my screen size is only 60", FWIW...

Some of us have a tiny room for HT.
Because of the location of walls, windows, foot traffic and other practical considerations in my relatively big living room, I cannot set up an HT system there. In my HT room, anything larger than my 50" plasma would be completely ridiculous. I'm barely sitting 7' 6" from the screen. |

Mine's 46", plenty big until I get a larger home. Probably go with a 60" then.
