Default Dolby TrueHD on two BR players?

Dolby TrueHD on two BR players?

I have BDP-S1E and BDP-S500 players with the latest firmware release 4.20 for the S1E (which updates it to support Dolby TrueHD).

Now, on the S500, with the player “Setup” HDMI audio set to “Auto” and the disc “How the West was Won” set to Dolby TrueHD (5.1), my Integra amp registers “Dolby TrueHD” with 6 active channels on its panel. So far so good.

On the S1E and the same all regions disc my amp now says “ Dolby D Ex” . I assume that the player is not sending out a TrueHD bitsream ? Is that correct.?

Setting the S1E player HDMI audio to “PCM”, the amp now displays “multichannel” (with 6 channels active). So am I now getting effectively Dolby TrueHD through the PCM option or not?

Thanks F

The Sony BDP-S1 cannot bitstream any of the HD audio codes according the specs here. It also cannot internally decode DTS-HD MA, which means on those discs you are limited to the core track unless there is another audio option.
