I currently own a Japanese 60GB PS3 (with full PS2 BC, Emotion Engine included) and I'm considering to sell it to get a Japanese slim PS3. I wanted to hear your opinion on the matter. Here are some points regarding my use of my PS3:
So, any suggestions on the matter? Things I might have overlooked? I'm mostly interested to hear feedback on the noise of the fan on the slim models, especially from people who have owned or own both a slim and fat PS3, to compare. Thanks in advance for the feedback! |

Well the biggest reason to keep the 60GB is for the PS2 games and if your not going to play anymore PS2 games(which is kind of hard for me to believe since there is plenty of Japanese PS2 games I would play if I could on my American 60GB).
But anyways though if not going to play any PS2 games then get the slim. Or you could be like me and own a 60GB and a slim PS3. |

If you could keep the 60GB and still buy the slim then that would be the best thing to do. At least you have the option of playing PS2 games in the future and a second BD player never hurts for another room or if one goes.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Perhaps I'll just get a slim model and see if I keep the 60GB or not.
Good point on the card slots, didn't think of that. I've used them in the beginning but not anymore as I first transfer my photos to an external HDD and then connect that one to the PS3. Also good point on the double HDMI cables. I thought I could use the pass-through option of the Onkyo receiver, so connect the PS3 to the Onkyo with HDMI and then again the Onkyo with HDMI to the TV. Alas, even though there are still some good PS2 games coming out in Japan, I'm having a harder and harder time going back to the PS2-era graphics and find myself more and more attracted to hi-def gaming (and movies) One final question: any news on the fan noise of the slim model? The sales person I talked to said the slim one is even quieter than the older models due to the reduced fan size, less heat from the processor and so on, but I'm sure every sales person tries to say the right thing to make a sale, so I'd love to hear from members on this site what your take is on the fan of the slim vs the older models. Thanks again! |
